Upgrade to W11 - TPM 2.0 issue

Hi there.

I have Windows 10 Pro 64 bit - 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1586).

It's a desktop with i7, 32GB Ram, GB Z370 MB, and Nvidia 1050 Ti graphic card.

When I run PC Health Check it tells me I can't upgrade to Windows 11 because I don't have TPM 2.0 enabled.

I followed the instructions here but when I look in my BIOS I don't find any TPM 2.0 option and the "Security Device Support" is set on "Enabled".

Not sure what to do next...

No idea also what is a TPM 2.0 and if I'm supposed to have it on my machine.

Any help will be warmly welcomed.

There is a good possibility that your MB and CPU support a firmware TPM in addition to a physical TPM. In the same area of the BIOS where you saw the references to the TPM, look for Intel Platform Trust Technology, PTT, fTPM, or something similar to that and enable that.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

TPM is a security device that stores things like bitlocker keys. Yes, TPM 2.0 is a minimum requirement for Windows 11.

To enable it in the bios of your Intel based Gigabyte motherboard, turn on ‘Intel Platform Trust Technology’ (PTT).

By the way, well done for filling in your system specs. Not all new members do that. (y)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Go to BIOS and make sure you have Platform Trust Technology (PTT) enabled which is intel's firmware TPM (fTPM).

If you want to do an in situ up-grade, do a web search for how to "bypass TPM check"

If you want to do a clean install, download the Win 11 ISO and use Rufus to create the boot/install USB, and choose the option which bypasses TPM check (et al)

In this video, i will upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on unsupported computer hardware. Although Windows 11 has a higher system requirement, you may still be able to perform an upgrade on an unsupported computer. The Windows setup has an “appraiser” service that checks to see if your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements for that version. It’s possible to replace the appraiserres.dll file in the Windows 11 setup with one from an older build of Windows 10. In order to replace the Windows 11 DLL with one from Windows 10, you’ll actually need the setup files for Windows 10.

It may just be that Windows Update hasn't yet caught up with the changes you made. Try clicking 'Check for updates' and see if that warning gets updated to...

If not, you can delete the previous compatibility check test results in the registry, returning to this pre-test state...

...and it should then shortly re-run the compatibility tests. To do this delete the key:

We also know from post #8 that the PC Health Check says it is OK. But it would be nice to know which i7 @Helper_Seeker has so that we can confirm that.

You can download anytime you want. You can download the ISO and do an in-place upgrade.

Coffee Lake is Intel's 8th gen so it is compatible, 8th gen or newer is required. It would have been easier just to give the number of the i7 in your specs though. The first digit is the CPU generation, and yours would be an i7-8****

Good to hear that. The exact timing of it being offered to you is not easy to predict. Microsoft say this is a phased rollout that's expected to have offered 11 to all compatible devices by mid-2022.

If you are impatient, then you can upgrade it yourself, either with a downloaded ISO....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.
