Hi Guys,

I have a USB device that is saying 'Unknown USB Device (Post Reset Failed)'



and I cannot for the life off me work out which device it is, everything on my PC seems to be running OK!
is there a way of finding what device it actually is?

Dave,

Double-click on the entry with the warning sign,
go to the Details tab,
Click on the Properties entry [initially Device description] to show the dropdown list,
select HardwareIDs,
select the shortest HardwareID entry, right-click, Copy.

Then search online for that HardwareID.

Thanks Denis followed your advice and got USB\RESET_FAILURE, I think it is a hardware failure on the MB as I initially found the error when my Kraken stopped working so I swapped the headers over and it started working but the other cable goes to my front IO which is still working despite the error, weird :-(

That's awkward. Without a proper HardwareID entry there's nothing to search on.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Right-click on Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) under this category and then click Uninstall to remove the device.
After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.


You can also update Generic USB Hub device.

Hi FreeBooter, I tried that a number of times but it keeps reappearing the same. I have just disabled it and everything seems to be working OK!
