USB Drive issues

Hi. I am trying to put to use an older Toshiba 1 GB USB Drive. But it is not responding to the system. Want to format it. Have tried partition tools. Windows disk management says it is not initialized. However, when I try to initialize, the system reports that there is cyclical redundancy errors. I tried to format it with Easeus, and I watched it do it after a restart and before booting into Windows. But it was still seen as not initialized in disk management.

As a test, try using a USB 2.0 port on your computer, instead of a 3.x port.
And now that you formatted it, try initializing it again?

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
It could be a driver problem,with Windows not allowing the old driver to download.
In the Search box,type in ---dxdiag ---and in the System page uncheck WHQL,which should allow you to download old drivers.
Don't forget to create a Restore point before doing it and do not leave WHQL permanently unchecked.Its function is to stop dodgy drivers downloading.

I have had luck using Diskpart (diskpart, select disk then select the correct disk # use the clean command) to clean the thumbdrive and then use windows disk management to reinitialize it. Then I was able to reformat and use it.
