USB Drive not Recognized windows 11 Help!

Hi,
I recently updated my Asus Zenbook from Windows 10 to Windows 11. since then my USB drive has stopped working. beforehand it worked fine. every time i go to put something in the USB port I get a windows explorer error msg. I have attached the error msg. I have spoken to windows which has been about as much help as talking to my 1-year-old baby. they have asked me to plug my USB into a different port which as I explained I only have 1 port. then they said I would need to downgrade back to windows 10 but to do this I would need to download windows to a flash drive.. obviously, I can not do that lol. I have had a brief look on the net and followed some simple steps like trying to update drivers but nothing is working. any help would be great. i hate not being able to use a keyboard of mouse.

If you check device manager are there any items showing errors (specifically USB hub related)?
Have you checked the manufacturers web site for drivers related to to your device, I'm thinking chipset drivers? Laptops, tablets etc tend to use highly customised hardware and drivers specific to the model, it is possible Windows 11 does not have a suitable OOB driver in this case.
Is your device listed by the manufacturer as Windows 11 compatible?
What type/ make of USB drive are you trying to use?

Try changing your power options. control panel>power options>change when computer sleeps>change advanced power settings>
locate USB settings and expand it>Expand USB Selective suspend settings -> Change settings here to Disabled.

I don't know the model of your Zenbook but go to Download Center | Official Support | ASUS Global and download your chipset drivers.

Check to see if your mouse and external keyboard works in bios. I have seen instances where a upgrade went awry and caused strange problems with drivers. If bios recognizes it, I would use another computer to make a bootable uefi flash drive and do a clean install.

If it’s not been more than 10 days since you upgraded to Windows 11, you get back to 10. Go to Settings>System>Recovery and choose “Go Back.” You’ll be asked if you want to check first for updates to Windows 11; decline that and follow the wizard to return to Windows 10.
Once you are running stable in 10, do a full system backup using one of the free backup programs available. I suggest Macrium. Be sure to make recovery media with whatever program you choose. Then try a clean install of 11.

What type/ make of USB drive are you trying to use? I have attached a photo of my device manager. i have checked ASUS website and all drivers seem to be up to date. yes my laptop was able to upgrade to windows 11

when i go to power options there is no USB Settings available

1) Is there another computer you can plug your USB drive into to make sure it's not an issue with the drive?
2) Do you have a USB thumb drive you can plug into your laptop; if so, is it recognized?

I’ve plugged them into another laptop and they work fine. Tried a usb thumb drive and it didn’t pick it up

So anything you plug in to that port doesn't work? The port is detecting a device plugged in, but doesn't know what the device is, possible failing USB port. The only real way to check (other than a multi-meter and knowledge on how to use it) is to revert to Windows 10 for testing.

Please comment or confirm for each letter:

a) the USB flash drive works fine in another computer

b) another USB flash drive can be detected but this one cannot

c) another USB flash drive cannot be detected and this one also cannot be detected.


Indicate what was seen for each:

a) BIOS

b) device manager

c) disk management

d) file explorer


Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

I have the same issue since WIN11 update. There is no USB options in Power settings. Seems blocked by Security. I turned off Windows Security and MS Defender but still no access. However, I used a different USB charging cable and no popup. It only seems to popup when I plug on the smartwatch and it seems to be charging. Not sure why there is a not recognized popup. Guess it just doesn't recognize the smartwatch charger but works anyway.
