I have a multi port usb box. All my usb ports are listed in File Explorer. Can I 'hide them' and will they still work.

I have a USB hub connected to my desktop and they only show when I connect a USB drive. Can you post a screen shot?

Are Drives E: to Drive P: USB Ports and not USB Drives? Have you had the drives listed plugged into those Ports. What happens if you unplug the hub and restart the computer? I'm not on my compter with the 8 port hub so I can't show you what my File Explorer looks like. I can say that only the drives that are pluuged in show.

I believe you have some card reader. These drive letters are each for a different card slot. You can hide drives by changing some value in Registry and yes it will work and can be accessed if you know which is the drive letter and type it at the address bar, such as E: to access the E: drive. An easier way than mess with Registry is to use Winaero Tweaker.

If there's nothing in the port you can hide empty drives in file explorer/options/view and they will become visible when you put something in or you can type in the drive letter and a dialogue will come up asking you to insert a disk.

Can you explain why you need to hide them? This will help us all to understand the actual issue. I could say just power off or unplug the USB hub but I don't think that will give you what you are after. 😁

Probably to prevent unauthorized usage from others sharing his computer. I once had a hard disk that didn't want anyone else to know about it, so I just hid the drive letter.

thanks Brink. The idea by PteJohn hide every drive except usb did not work. Those usb drives are occupied by the way, maybe that something to do with it. Using mutli port extns in the past has never done this though.

Did you try disconnecting the hub and restarting your computer? Can you try plugging in a USB mouse or keyboard into one of the slots and see if that resets it?
