Sure but easier and cheaper just to connect phone (assuming android) directly using any usb to micro usb cable (typical for charging phones), and phone is just seen as a drive itself like a usb stick. Only difference iit does not usually have a drive letter - but still obvious.

Just be careful, some of those USB-C type look the same but may not fit the phone, I got a new phone a few months ago and the cables I had for my tablet and flipphone don't plug into it.

I recently switched from W10 phone (Lumia) to Android by My Phone in Windows is pretty well useless so I have a USB3- A to USBc cable to connect to phone reliably but also to charge it.

I use the cable, maybe once a year, to empty the Pictures folder.
I'll use Messages for Web, for a long, drawn out conversation.
Occasional transfers are Bluetooth or email.

I only use the USB cable for charging the phone when I'm not at home. At home, I use a charging pad. The only files I need from my phone are the photos I take and they get automatically saved to my Onedrive folder.

My phone is my internet connection.
I generally connect to my Android phone's WiFi connection rather than the cable.
- I only bother with USB-A to USB-C cables nowadays.
- If I want to connect a USB memory stick or SD card to the phone I use adapters rather than special USBs or different cables. The adapters are small and live on my keyring so I have them with me while I'm travelling.
I use FJSoft's MyPhoneExplorer to sync files & MSOffice Outlook Calender, Contacts, Notes, Tasks with the phone. It can work across cable, WiFi hotspot, WiFi network, Bluetooth. Its syncing is direct not through the cloud.

My PC has only one USB 3.2 type C connector and it's at back. otherwise I would have used USBc to USBc as it's faster than USB 3.1 type A . There is PCI type-e connector on the MB but I can't find a proper connector for the case. Both are 3.2 v2 speeds. Transfer speed to the phone is much faster than BT anyway, almost instant and I have problems with BT.
Otherwise, USB 3.2 is fast enough even for high res monitors so it could be handy to add another monitor if your GPU doesn't have enough connectors.
With USB hubs with multiple USB connectors, all connectors share power and bandwidth so more thing you connect, slower each gets.
