No.
@antspants suggestion must be done using the hidden administrator account as his tutorial says.
Do @antspants suggestion that changes the user folder name.
Then log back into your account to do this to change user name that appears throughout windows screens, That includes th signin screen.

According to the tutorial I posted, Changing the name of an account's user profile folder will not change the user account name.

As per the tutorial. As you are changing the Admin account, you’ll have to use the Built In Administrators account to achieve this.

You need to read through the tutorial clearly before you start, as with all tutorials, for best results

Except one isn’t needed. The OP is already hitting stumbling blocks due to missing some ”Steps in the tutorial” I don’t see the need to add any more steps to complicate the issue.

But sure, you’re right, both methods would work. Perhaps you should suggest Brink changes the tutorial?

I am now in deep S&^%t ! I got to step 11 but the only folders there were default, admin and public.
I rebooted system restored and edited the ProfileImagePath back to trevo
.

Now I log in to my user profile as normal but it has created a new profile.

Can't use my outlook email either.

Forget trhe renaming the folder can I just get back to my files?

What error are you getting? Do you have a backup image you can restore from? This is just a FYI and not a solution. When setting up Windows 11, MS wants us to use our MS Account. One of the down falls is that we can't choose our user name. Windows uses the first five characters of our email address. That's one of the reason I take the needed steps to first setup with a local account and then sign in to my MS Account. I do hope you get your problem fixed.

I followed steps to set up a new prfile then go to C:/users:oldname to copy files across but C:/users /oldname isn't there

I have all my data backed up but I's really rather not have to install 10's of software again. Most is installed on D drive.

if it is listed as trevo then you were originally (99% odds) signed in with a Microsoft account. it takes the first 5 letters of your Microsoft account email and uses that as your user account name. since you apparently already switched to a local account, to change that folder properly:

I have reinstalled windows and despite not wanting a microsoft account I am still stuck with my user files C:users/trevor


To much grief to try and alter that again. Took me 3 hours just to get Outlook working. As for my NAS well that's hours more grief.
