Solved User data migration from old W10 machine to new W11 machine

But if you are talking about a disaster, there's a chance that you will be gone with your data. So, it won't matter anymore.

Ouch! :crys:

Thanks for the comments, folks, here are my thoughts.

@Mark Phelps I am not sure if 'EaseUS ToDo Data Transfer' and 'LapLink PC Mover' will migrate from one OS (W10) to a different OS (W11)
Yes they will -- as I have done it.

Thanks, that would be 2 other tools to evaluate. I have evaluated nearly a dozen tools so far, and found 3 good ones(y) but I am also exhausted :)

Edit: The issue has become more like how to make the 3 different tools work together for best synergy.

I used LapLink back in the day, did not even realize they were still around.

When I built my new system, I simply took the old drives out of the old system, put hem in the new and copied directly, no (extra) software needed - copy works perfectly fine. Of course, my new system is well over-built, so that helped, tremendously.

As for making the 3 tools worked synergistically - do you really need all three? I mean, this is a one time deal, right?

The synergy covers backup, restore, and migration. I backup all the time and check that restore works at least some of the time. Migration is made up of backup + restore. All that has to work with minimum effort while the bits and pieces are often checked for correct functioning (not that a one time deal suddenly turns out to be a one time bust) then safe operation/minimizing attack surface, having sufficient redundancy in case of a hardware failure, etc., etc.

I thought you were referring to using 3 tools for this one part of hte project, the transfer of files from one system to another. Robocopy is well enough for this job, as you've outlined.

Not that it helps, but I refuse to use OneDrive (and so do most of the people I work with), we do however use Dropbox and other cloud systems.
Yeah, I have OneDrive, Google Drive, dropbox.com, and at one time box.com

That was from a time when file sharing was hyped up to the clouds (pun intended, LOL) but in reality nobody used file sharing via the cloud, at least not those people I interact with. These days, people share their photos and other files over the phone, not so much via Facebook even.

box.com was virtually identical to dropbox.com and I closed the box.com account years ago. For a short while I had the dropbox.com icon on my desktop, but since nobody did file sharing with me, that icon disappeared from my desktop. I still have the dropbox.com account, but there is very little in that cloud, just to keep the (free) account dormant. MS was pretty sneaky with OneDrive. For a couple of days, I did not even notice that my files were synced to OneDrive (it had a different name then, SkyDrive or something) Of course, I stopped it then and was on the verge of deleting all my files in the cloud. The few files from years ago are still there, but my OneDrive is dormant. I have a Google account, and by definition Google Drive, but this time around I was luckily smart enough not to use it 'by accident'.

With any cloud system, I always have the feeling of piggybacking on somebody else's computer. I'd rather have my own 'personal cloud' at my own computer (y)

I have my own personal cloud on my NAS which is an older AMD computer running TrueNAS.

Yeah, great, that's what I meant (y) Although my version of personal clouds is much simpler, they are simple SSDs, but I have 3 clouds :D
