Solved Using Amazon app store vs other emulators like LDPlayer ?

I was wondering if the performance will be better in games if I used Amazon app store or it is better using emulators like LDPlayer ?

Amazon app store is not an emulator, while LDPLayer is. What you probably meant to ask is whether performance on LDPLayer is better than using Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). I can't answer that, since I have never used the emulator, so I have nothing to compare to. All I know is that Blue Stacks emulator is faster than LDPLayer based on tests done by others. Blue Stacks I tried years ago but back then it was slow and buggy. It has improved since then, but haven't tried the latest version. Looking up some random internet posts it seems BS still has some issues.

It is very difficult to answer your question, but WSA performance is quite good. About 80% (same or similar as you'd get from WSL aka. Windows Subsystem for Linux) of what you would get from a native Windows app/game. That should count as something at least. WSA uses a translation layer after all, to ensure that any Android binary runs correctly on Windows.

I just grabbed the free game Angry Birds Friends from the Amazon App Store and it ran quite well on my not so fast laptop. On my desktop computer it would probably fly because of much faster hardware.

I hope this helps answer your question at least a little bit. Try out WSA and see for yourself if it performs good enough for your games.

Looking at your hardware specs, I don't see any point in even talking any further about this. WSA games should fly on your computer and if Amazon App Store is too limited for you, it is always possible to create a custom instance of WSA where you can use Google Play Store and most of Google Services.

Yes this is similar experience I have had. Either BS crash or the whole computer crash.

You need to manually modify WSA image in order to get Google Play setup in WSA. It is a quite involved process and requires to be reapplied every time an updated WSA image has been released.

Blue Stacks does not play well with the HyperV hypervisor and/or Defender Credential Guard installed.

Blue Stacks freezes Windows when W11 is run as a VM (at least on my machine) - probably something due to "Nesting VM's.

I'm not minded to try it on "Real hardware" just yet but might "give it a go" when I've got nothing else to do.

What I'm waiting for is to be able to sideload .apk's on to WSA.

One problem though is some of these .apk's are designed for ARM and Snapdragon processors so running these on a standard Intel / AMD chipset might be problematic.

How the emulator converts ARM instructions into those for an alternate CPU is ??? and IMO bound to be slow even if it can be done. That's probably why you have to load the apps from the Ms store as they've been jury rigged for the appropriate CPU.

The only other way I could see this being done is to have these as running under an interpreter -- so it would be in some sort of "meta-language" which the interpreter would in-line compile into Intel / AMD executable commands. This again unless you had a mega fast CPU would be quite inefficient - although python which is essentially "interpreted" can run reasonably efficiently.

I wonder if anybody on these forums has a Lenovo ARM laptop -- would be interesting to see WSA in action on that platform as well as the performance of W11 itself on that platform.

Use x86-64 versions of the apps. They run fast.

Can anyone advise me on how much RAM is used by WSA? I am purchasing a Surface Pro 9 am currently trying the core i5 with 16 gb ram. The 32 gb core i7 option is very pricey and probably overkill for my pattern of use. However, I want to have WSA continually running with home automation android apps--e.g. Smartthings, Racchio, Blink, and Tractive for Pets. (Because the Amazon App store is virtually devoid of decent apps other than games, I will be sideloading the android apps that I may want.)

I tried running WSA with a several apps from Amazon Appstore simultaneously active (used audible, Washington Post, Paramount, CBS, Lyft) on the 16 gb ram Surface Pro. With MS Word and Google Chrome also both open on other desktops, I could see in MS Task Manager that I was using about 80% of the 16gb Ram. This makes me wonder if I should spring for the 32 gb ram model. I expect to use this platform for at least 3 or four years.

Since the device is already expensive even at the base model and it is not upgradeable after purchase, I'd go with the top of the line model with biggest storage and most RAM. I'd also grab the Surface KB cover with the pen, so you'd have all the features available for you from start. Then I'd also grab the big dock, in case you ever want to plug in several external displays.

With this setup, the device would last you for more than 3 years easily. Even 5 years.

I know it's a lot of money, but if you're into these kinds of devices and do more than just type in Word and surf the web a bit, then it's worth the money.

You could however get away with the 16GB RAM/512GB storage option too. But the 32GB RAM/1TB storage model will certainly help.

On my laptop I purchased years ago, had 16GB RAM, and it was not enough for my usage, so I added 16GB more. I do however run WSL, WSA and Virtual Machines all at the same time. Also my laptop has only 512GB of storage, which I have to upgrade soon as it isn't enough for my usage. For me 2TB would be good. 1TB would be enough for most people though.

So to answer your question, you should decide with your wallet. 16GB/512GB could be enough if you keep less web-browser tabs open and also not run too many 3rd party apps at the same time. WSA itself does not consume that much RAM, 2-4GB at most where the higher usage depends on the amount of apps you run at the same time and also the app type.
