I noticed there was a battery icon on the Taskbar. It turned out to be the battery in my APC UPS. After I installed Powershute the icon disappeared.

Yep - you can chase your tail a bit but you get there in the end.

Now you see why I said export drivers first.

Definitely easier than going to the OEM site and down loading all the drivers for the motherboard.

I had a slight problem today after doing the update in the Dev build. When I did a restart my computer wouldn't boot. When I loaded the BIOS I saw that the boot drive order was changed. I had to select my Nvme drive (drive 1) instead of the SSD drive (drive 0) as the boot drive.

Easiest way IMO - using 100% standard Windows is simply to after installing new version of Windows simply go down the "device manager" and for any missing drivers / hardware not functioning properly just click on properties, update driver, install from PC and then choose FROM THE OLD SYSTEM ( a mounted backup macrium image will do as well) windows/system32/DriverStore and click also include subfolders. Those drivers will then install -- if they don't and Windows 11 hasn't got new ones yet you'll have to wait. I don't think there's much / if any hardware out there yet where the W10 drivers won't work on W11.

Messing about with manual 3rd party programs to find / fix / copy drivers etc is IMO a big pain.

This assumes standard iso can fully install from a winpe drive in the first instance.

As I have explained before, sometimes the standard iso fails to get past the installation menu as it cannot see the hard drives as it does not have the drivers needed for the hard drive. The best example of my ASUS laptop that uses OPTANE memory which uses special drivers. It took me ages to find out what the problem was.

So the best option is to download all drivers from an existing installation that works on to a usb drive first, then you can load key drivers (IRST drivers needed for Optane drives) at installation time from the installation gui. Then once you have installed, you can go to device manager to install the rest as needed.

On another post a user has stated he gets to the installation screen but no hard drives are show. I bet this is because their pc requires optane memory (or similar) drivers.

You can mess around turning off optane from bios so installer uses standard drive to get W10 installed, but you still need to install drivers sooner or later to revert to optane mode. It is easier to have drive up front at installation time.

Once you have installed W10 as dual boot, you can load drivers from older installed installation (or via a mounted reflect image works as you say).

I don't know why but the order of my boot drive keeps changing in the BIOS. I think I'm going to delete the partitions and just continue to run the Dev in the VM.
edit: When this happens the computer will not boot.
