Hi folks

currently running this version of W11 pro for workstations :

Expiry date is 11 Aug (I installed the UK ENG base version so I assume the date is in standard european dd/mm/yyyy format.

Loads of us at least in europe who actually get decent holidays (vacation periods) will probably be away for most of August - so unlikely to be bothering too much with maintaining computers / doing updates etc - so I hope that when coming back after the break I don't have an "inoperative" computer or have to go through the hassle of installing from scratch another build plus all the applications, hardware drivers etc.

I'm surprised at the mindset of Ms -- surely most of its customers are in the N.Hemisphere so why on earth would you bring out a build that expires in the Summer - wouldn't it have been more sensible to have this mid- September or even October.

Anybody got some insider words as to when this build is being updated (26H2 remember). Funny isn't it - a decent build gets released - but it only gets a short life span !!!!!

Cheers
jimbo

You must be using a beta or insider evolution ISO, that's why?

That's the Insider version 26H2 being developed in the channel formerly known as Dev. I wouldn't worry though, past behaviour at MS indicates that the next stage is that the build will be signed off internally at MS as the RTM build to take forward to release. Once that happens the expiry date and watermark get removed. Also, the Dev and Beta channels will align for a while (and maybe Release Preview) so that Insiders have a limited-time window to switch freely between channels.

With a Sept/Oct. release pencilled in for 26H2 all that is likely to happen before the 11 Aug expiry date. Remember, this channel gets updates more or less weekly, typically on a Friday.

The same happened to the 26H1 28000 build that's now RTM for Snapdragon X2-powered PCs. Its Canary channel version lost its expiry date in the run up to release.

Interesting. Since build 27975.1 the watermark has been removed, but that's not all - so has the expiry date in Winver.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
