VisualCppRedist AIO by abbodi1406

From GitHub - abbodi1406/vcredist: AIO Repack for latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes

Overview:

  • AIO Repack for latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes, without the original setup bloat payload.
  • Built upon VBCRedist_AIO_x86_x64.exe by @ricktendo64
  • The process is handled by a windows command script, which runs hidden in the background by default.
  • Before installation, the script will check and remove existing non-compliant Visual C++ Runtimes, including the original EXE or MSI setups, or older MSI packages versions.
  • The uninstallation option/script will remove any detected VC++ runtimes (except UCRT).
  • Windows XP support is partial, the pack will install and detect latest runtimes versions, but it will not check and remove non-compliant versions.
  • You can extract the installer file with 7-zip or WinRar to a short path, and run Installer.cmd as administrator

Haha, I followed the link and was going to download 0.68 when I saw this. How long does it usually take when you install?

About 4-5 minutes max, and that's only because Adobe Creative Suite Desktop app is always running in the background, so it takes some time to gather the details on apps it needs to close.

On my i8750H Dell XPS 15 notebook with 32GB of memory, it takes like an hour and I get two popups about stuff it needs to close. It never closes Windows Explorer on the first one but the second one it does but does not restart Windows Explorer after it finishes.

An hour?

Seriously???

I usually close all desktop apps, and a few tray apps, but I have to go to Task Manager because Adobe does not provide for an easy manner ot exit the Desktop app (IE there is no context menu with an exit / close function for it - yay, Adobe!)

But, yeah, my system as listed in specs - it's super fast to get this installed.

I just downlaoded 69, let me run it now and verify actual time. I'll leave Adobe running so it will send me the popups.

Welp - that didn't work lol.

Apparently, since there were no new packages to install, I started it and it came back as complete in about 5 seconds flat.

Whoops.

Yeah, it's 14 minutes now as I already got the first popup with a bunch of stuff which I said automatically close and restart the apps which never closes Windows Explorer like it says it will. The second with Windows Explorer just popped up and I always answer automatically close and restart apps, this one Windows Explorer does get killed but it will finish but never restarts the Windows Explorer process, do you have to manually restart Explorer.exe? Actually, there is a third popup with NVidia Web Helper Service and Skype.

It's actually a little bit under 22 minutes but it never resumed Windows Explorer after killing it.

That might be the key there - that fact that it wants to close Explorer but never actually does. Then the second one does kill it, but at that point the first 'close' never got opened again, and so it fails.

I don't even get prompts to close Explorer anymore, so I'm guessing it is some sort of Explorer addon / context menu addition that may actually be causing that.

Looks like 0.72.0 installs correctly, didn't see it kill explorer, only thing it killed was Skype Preview it seems as all my system tray icons are still there after the installation was complete which meant it didn't kill Windows Explorer.

Either it was fixed in v0.71.0 which I didn't know about or it was fixed in v0.72.0.

I want to say 0.70 also did not require anything to restart. 0.71 definitely did not.

v0.73.0 seems to bring back the old Explorer process not restarting correctly issue. I used the .exe instead of the .zip which I had used before. The Explorer.exe process is still running, it's closer to Explorer.exe crashing but not restarting. v0.71.0 and v0.72.0 probably did not have this happened because the problem could be in the files that are downloaded as the .exe and even .zip would be too small for the actual runtime distributions themselves.

Mine never tried to restart explorer. Hmmm.

I always use the .ZIP download, which I always thought is just the executable archived for transmission, nothing else.

Could it be a third party context menu extension you have in Explorer?

v0.73.0 seems to bring back the old Explorer process not restarting correctly issue.
Same here. Also used the .exe, running on Win 11 build 22621.1702 with ExplorerPatcher 22621.1555.55.2 and trying to manually restart explorer (via Ctrl+Shift+Esc ➜ click on Run new task) was causing explorer to immediately crash again, until I rebooted which fixed the problem for me.
