Vivaldi browser, anyone using it ?

Unfortunately since the evolving of online away from Dial-Up to Bulletin Boards into online Internet there's always been some type of feed-back "call home" involved, don't think we'll ever get completely away from it. A lot of that "feed-back" involves knowing how the users work with the product.

After reading an interesting article reporting on major browsers, I dumped Vivaldi and since my recently clean install of Windows 11 Pro, I downloaded Brave browser. It's too early to report, but so far so good. I'm beginning to believe that no browser is what it is said to be when it comes to spying on your browsing and usage.

All chromium based browser have trackers. even brave. they track you via favicons. only firefox blocks this tracking, not intentionally but due to a bug. 😁

join the vivaldi sub on reddit. the devs are there.
The team is also active on the Vivaldi Forum.
just installed Vivaldi and playing with it.
 Yay!
Thankfully the chrome Dark Reader extension works on it otherwise it would have been unusable for me.
Yes, most Chrome extensions work in Vivaldi.
Didn't know it was going to give me a Vivaldi email account but I set it up on Thunderbird and now have five email accounts, like I need them all lol.
With a Vivaldi account you get access to 5 different services. First, there's the email service you mentioned. Then there's the Forum (linked above) for all Vivaldi related discussions. You can also host your own blog (WordPress based) on Vivaldi.net. Of course, there's the Sync feature, so you could keep all your data in sync across devices. And last but not least, if you've created a browser theme you're proud of, you can share it with everyone on the Theme gallery. @FrancoDT, you might find a dark theme you like from there too. You're welcome to use all of them... or none of them. The browser can be used nicely without an account too.

@kgarrett67, as @FrancoDT said, it would be nice to read the article that made you switch browse.

Though, feature tracking would make life a lot easier for the browser's design and development team, we have decided not to include any tracking in Vivaldi. Respecting users' privacy is more important for us.
There is a daily ping going to our servers, though. But that's only for the purpose of counting how many users Vivaldi has.
More info about all this can be found in our blog posts here, here and here.

I've got to admit, now that I've got Vivaldi tweaked the way I like I'm very happy with it thus far. A couple examples, I found the bookmarks settings to automatically open my bookmarks in a new tab and with a single click now. I'm liking the expanding/retracting side panel but I removed the email and calendar apps from the side panel since I use Thunderbird. I did find the little translate button on the side panel to be very useful so keeping that. There are so many settings and customizations to scroll through you tend the miss some the first time going through them. For example the show or don't show the little "Unread Indicators" for the tabs and the little trash can on the tab bar that has a list of all your closed tabs. It's fast becoming my favorite browser.

When I used Vivaldi, I did have the option set as you for opening bookmarks with a single click and in a new tab. That is a really useful idea.

Hi there!
A comment we often hear is that Vivaldi is slow. We released a new version yesterday that addresses the issue, so make sure to update your browser and if it was ever a reason to switch browsers, now is a good time to take Vivaldi for another spin. ;-)
You can read more about the update on our blog - Massive code refactoring brings speed to Vivaldi browser.

And as always, if you have any questions about Vivaldi, let me know. :-)

You need to give us more than that. Edge is improving and it incorporates Bing's version of modified ChatGpt. It also has split screen within the browser and more.

On another note, If you modified your browser for Windows 7 users that would cause them to switch especially since Firefox stopped updating their browser for Windows 7 users.

They're not popular at all, with pitiful marketshare and hardly any users.
For Windows, there are only two browsers with more thdn 10%.

1. Chrome
2. Edge
3. Firefox but still rather pitiful marketshare < 10%
4. Rest - truly pitiful marketshare.

Edge isn't even in my top 3 browsers, OperaGx incorporated chat gpt well before anyone else from what i can see, Not that i need it or use it, But i've had it there for months, Big whoop. It probably looks like OperaGX, Vivaldi then Mozarella Firedog for me. Windows 7, An unsupported obsolete OS, Be a bit pointless.
