This happens every time VLC has an update. Oh, well... I'm sure they will get around to it eventually.

Portable

I just updated to VLC 3.0.24, and all the startup delays are gone! It pops up instantly when I play a video or an MP3. Whatever was affecting it before has obviously been corrected.

Well, it's not a 3600 second delay, so I'm not sure why that changed the delay...

No one said anything about a 3600 second delay, so I'm not sure what the point is there. The function they were using retrieves different values for a file's timestamp, based on whether the computer is in daylight savings or not (a difference of one hour, 3600 seconds, because, you know, DST). In reading through the comments on the commit, it seems to cause some kind of issue with validating the plugin cache's contents. I haven't thoroughly read the code, so that may be incomplete.

My point was that it didn't say anything about fixing the startup delay. It may have been a factor, hard to say.

It very much does mention the startup delay. The release notes above say
