W11Pro 25H2 - cannot add printer

I just did an in-place reinstall of W11 because my printers stopped working as well as Windows Updates not working either. SO now that W11 has been reinstalled it did see my Brother HL-L2325DW printer and that is working fine (so far). However, I also have a Brother MFC-J1010DW printer/scanner that does not show up in the Settings/Bluetooth&Devices/Printers & Scanners menu. I installed the latest Brother software and drivers for that printer and I can print to it from the Brother iprint app on this computer. However, it does not show up in the Windows list of printers and when I click on "Add Device" nothing happens. Any yes, I have tried powering the printer and PC on and off and this does not fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this printer (it is connected via WIFI) to show up as Windows printer so I can print to it from apps other than the Brother app?

The plot gets a little thicker....I tried connecting the printer to the PC via USB. Lo and behold, the computer saw the printer and it shows up in the WIndows list of printers. Yet, when I unplug the USB cable, it then shows "OFFLINE", even though the printer's wifi is connected to the same LAN as the PC and even though I can print to it over wifi from other computers on the same LAN. Ideas?

My guess is it's related to the ongoing retirement of legacy printer drivers in Windows 11, ad reported (for example) at Windows Report on Feb 9. It works on USB because the link is obvious and direct; on the network, things get a little bit more complicated quickly. I blogged about this on February 9. You might find it worth reading.

Thanks for your reply Ed. I was aware of the legacy printer issue, but this printer is not that old, and Brother has continued to update the drivers/software for it. Also, it continues to work just fine over wifi with my other 2 computers on this home LAN. So, I am wondering if there is some issue with this particular PC since the printing was funky before I reinstalled W11 today. Before the reinstall, it did not talk to any of my printers and W11 would not update. Even the re-install was initially problematic and would get stuck until chatgpt told me to try uninstalling Malwarebytes. Once I did that, the installation went smoothly. Only now, my PC is only seeing printers connected via USB whereas my other PCs, also running W11pro are able to connect and print to the same printers over wifi. Hmmm!

Might be some sort of conflict between having the two mfg printers, on the same pc. I have that same MFC-J1010DW, it’s been a great printer. When I installed that printer, I just let the OS install it, with the OS drivers. I have never needed or used any of the printers software, so I don’t know if the software could be causing the issue or not. I’m not the printer guru, maybe someone will come along that’s had the same issue and can explain how to fix this issue.

Doesn't the Brother software come with a Wizard to setup the WiFi Printer? Sometimes you need to run the wizard again so the Network can see the printer once again.
Another idea is to reset the Printer configurations (the manual show show how to restore it to factory defaults) and then, running any kind of wizard the software might have to setup WiFi again.

I talk by experience with an HP, but since you are using Brother, it may be different.

You should be able to add it via IP or Mac address? (Find them in the actual Printers settings) After Windows searches for the printer and fails, it should have a button that says something like “The printer isn’t listed”

Otherwise:

If it were me, and I do run two Brother printers (MFC-L2880DW / HL-2270DW) The following may be worth a shot?
Uninstall both, remove the drivers/software.
Reinstall the oldest first using the Brother Software
Reboot
Add the newer printer using Add printer in the Windows settings app.

I was just looking, both printers seem to have been released in 2022?

You could also try running the software then running it again after the first printer and a reboot.

Theoretically(?) When you first run the software, two printers should show.
Install either one of them first, it should be the same software.
Rerun and select the other.

And as much as it may be a pain in the butt, resetting both printers to factory (not that difficult) before you start, may be benificial.
Reset to factory
Reboot your router
Add the WiFi info to the printers.
Run the software.

But before you do any of this, check Windows Update > Advanced Settings > Optional Updates for anything related to Brother.

Thank you all for your suggestions I will try them and report back. The weird thing is that I can access that printer just fine from other pc's on my home wifi. I just can't print to it over wifi from this particular pc. However, I can scan docs on it over wifi from this pc using the Brother iprint&scan software app. So this pc can communicate with the printer's scanner over wifi. Very perplexing!

Most printers use their own communication protocol for wireless or networked connection. You can replace it with standard TCP/IP protocol and make the printer always detectable. Open Settings, Devices and Printers and find your printer in the Printers list. Click it to open and from the new screen select Printer Properties and then click to switch to the Ports tab. Click to create a new port and then select Standard TCP/IP port and click New port. Click next and then type the printer's IP address at both fields. You can see it from the printer's panel at the Network menu. If it isn't already connected to your Wi-Fi you can connect it from this menu and write down the IP address. This is something like 192.168.xxx.xxx or similar. Click next to complete the creation of the new port. Then from the list of ports make sure you check the box so the printer uses the new port you created. From the General tab you can send a test page to confirm it is working properly.

PS: For this to work, the printer must have IP printing (IPP) enabled which usually has, but if it is disabled you can enable it from the printer's panel at the Network menu.

I would try this.
Remove all traces of any old printer, leaving only the HL-L2325DW. Restart and try to install the MFC-J1010DW

If I understand correctly, the OP said the printer is detected via USB but not via Wi-Fi. This means that either is not connected to the Wi-Fi or that the computer cannot find its IP address to connect (probably changed). In the second case, you can manually change the IP address in the port to match the new one and the printer will work again. Because using manufacturer's communication protocol is not easy to make changes, that's why I suggested to create a new standard TCP/IP port matching the IP of the printer and use that instead.

I did follow SPAPAKONS suggestions and that worked! I can now print to the MFC-J1010DW wirelessly.
