Hi folks

If you want to try and learn things about Windows servers then the W22 server Free evaluation is great -- It's a sort of W10/W11 hybrid - very fast and efficient and a great learning tool when at home etc -- and you don't have access to Ms courses etc.

I've messed around with mine to use as a "Desktop" OS and it's brilliant -- however it's coming to the end of its period --60 days left (I'm going on holiday for a while so won't be able to use it so I'll extend now).

Step 1 --- display current status

step 2 --- re-arm command

steep 3 ---reboot --now got 180 days again. This will work 6 times -- should be long enough for most people.

Here's part of my "Desktop" W22 Server -- it runs a zillion times better than standard Windows -- even as a 4GB VM.

Job done -- Q.E.D

Server is definitely not meant to be run as a desktop. One of the fundamental differences between desktop and server editions is the types of processes they are optimized for. Server being optimized for background processes and desktop for interactive processes

I understand all that -- but IT WORKS and how many people actually try and do it. There are very few programs these days that check whether run on a server or standard system -- Macrium is one but you can still use the bootable recovery iso to save the image for backup.

Win22 server is nothing like older W2K3, Wk16 and even WK19 servers with loads of CAL licensing issues etc etc.

If the thing is optimised without all the dross and metrics being collected in W11 roll out processes -- it gets my vote. I have no trouble running Ms Office (retail version) on it -- I'm not running this as a muti-user system with a complete VDI process. I just don't think people have tried this to any degree. Of course you have to do sertain things like remove nag comments when shutting down server, changing a few things etc to allow sound / multi-media and other things -- 30 mins work with a couple of reboots. (And I'm an old school engineer - not an I.T guru).

I shudder to think -- although doctorate from Imperial college in London. !!! I think in a lot of countries now with economic woes most schools need urgent "re-building" but there's almost no money left.

Perhaps any economists on these board could answer a simple question that always seems to be ignored when politicians are on TV etc -- if most of the countries of the world are in debt - e.g even the USA which is trillions of dollars in debt -- then who actually are the creditors !!!! .

Answers are never given !!!! Economics has to these days be even more valueless than the alchemists ideas of a few centuries ago - although given the power of Nuclear fusion you could actually transmute base metals into Gold !!!! so even those alchemists had more logic and science behind them than modern day economists.
