I suppose they have to, if they're gonna try selling $2000+ phones!!!

Samsung boast that its new phone can translate between 13 languages. I thought that would be with voice recognition, but you have to type! Any phone could do that years ago with Google Translate.

$2000+ phones that will be flying off the shelves. Anyway, you can get the S24 Ultra 1TB, for $1659 (Max on-board storage).

That said with Cloud storage (specifically OneDrive), I myself longer require storage over 512gig, so that lowers the asking price.

Regardless, it doesn't matter to me as I'll be holding onto my S23 515gig Ultra for a few more years before upgrading. In fact, by the time I upgrade will be looking at the S25 or whatever it will be named then.

I won't be getting one either. That's because my S23 Ultra is barely a year old. And I suspect some (not all) of the S24 features will find their way over to the S23. But even if they don't, I'm good with what I have.

Were I upgrading today, I'd definitely get an S24 Ultra. I've been using Samsung phones since the S3 back in 2012 (still have it).

Samsung responded to a request for comment with a slightly longer version of that fine print, saying, "We are committed to making Galaxy AI features accessible to our users and will provide them for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices."

Now whether one choose to believe that or not, is strictly on them unless "proven" otherwise.

In the end, they all make you pay and if they say they wont, they will anyway. It’s the way of the world now. People become poorer and companies still pillage pockets. The trick is to move from the old to the new and then when the new starts charging for services, find another new. Inconvenient but unless you want to pay…

Most people are "silly" and just get them as part of a monthly contract rather than paying over £1000 upfront. They get sucked in by the "you can upgrade for only £xx per month blah blah blah" patter.

Of course phone is so expensive, you need to take out insurance as well.

When you look at its features, it is not particulary impressive - how many people can see the benefit of the higher resolutions?

In fact, the model does not even have an sd card slot, so if you want to transfer data from phone to other phones. you would need to connect a usb-sd card adaptor if you wanted to use an sd card.

I'm not sure there's any company that's in business to not make money?

Without getting into politics, there are people of all social-economic backgrounds buying stuff that "others" deem expensive. And yes, there's also the reality some people can't afford what they buy. Does that mean a company should stop making a product because some can't afford it - Should Ferrari stop making cars cause some can't afford them? Especially when cheaper options are available.

Anyway, some of this just sounds like jealousy speak that some are able to buy and afford expensive items, thus the name calling

You’re missing the point that there are companies that say something will remain free or “Lifetime” then change the rules, not even remotely the same as what you are describing.

A ”Ferrari” was never offered for free to start with in the hopes it would attract a user base and then start charging. There is no misunderstanding except for the fact you are basically buying a basic shell and everything extra adds up to nearly a quarter of the price of the car.

Software that costs money up front is either bought by a user or not, according to their budget and on an understanding that you have to pay..

Then there are companies that follow a now very common strategy:
.Create a product
.Offer it for free to get people interested and reliant on it. Or offer it as a one off purchase, add in lifetime upgrades to make it more appealing..
.When offered for free, start adding paid services for extra user advantages
.Start phasing out the free sections and offer a “poor us” statement
.If originally paid for outright, change the version number and make it a subscription.

I not quite sure where I ever intimated / said Ferrari was offered for free??? If that were the case, I'd have a few myself

And we can argue every minute detail and take up hundreds of pages or we can just acknowledge companies are in business to profit, and consumers know this, and thus look for the best prices possible. I didn't pay full retail price for my S23 Ultra

The only foolish and gullible consumers are those who don't do their research. Like life, if you choose to be a victim, you will be one.

I can't tell you how much stuff, especially, electronics I've gotten for less, even when the item is new. Why? The art of the deal. Businesses understand this as well.

You didn’t, but referring to a Ferrari in regards to comments about companies going back on their word just boggles the mind.
I should add, referring to those who have not, as jealous as apposed to forgotten, speaks volumes.
