While the code in newer OS'es might be larger (and therfore require more disk space), more memory and more sophisticated designs could lead to only a small part of the OS actually having to be Disk resident rather than the whole kybosh - whether paging / swapping is used or not. In theory this could make the OS easier to run on older systems -- I believe there are quite a few with hardware that couldn't get VISTA to run decently but can get W10 to decently enough (The thread in the W10 Forums "Let's run Windows on really old hardware"). Of course the problem comes when you want to interface with really modern hardware e.g new extreme graphics cards - but in theory an OS could go into "Virtual Mode" to emulate CPU instructions that are missing on the real hardware.

Probably time though for Windows to drop 32 bit support - I beleive quite a few other OS's have already done this.

As far as Weather is concerned -- the one from the BBC works just fine whether on a phone, tablet or PC.

I used to use Earth Alerts as my primary weather app, until it ... broke. Before that I used Weather Watcher.

Now, I just use apps on my (Android) phones:

Radar Scope For the longest time it was *the* best app focused purely on weather radar, and I bought the app prior to them moving to a subscription model for data access.

WhatTheForecast! A (mostly) humorous take on weather forecasts, programmed by a single developer who is a really nice bloke and who is always happy to have submissions for hilarious phrases to use in his forecasts

wX Arguably one of the best, most integrated weather apps I've seen (and it's available on FDroid, too). If you like detailed analysis and data accumulation, akin to the information that you find on Mike's Weather page, then this is the app for you.

I keep the MSN Weather app on my desktop around only because sometimes I want something quick and dirty for my location, but 99% of the time I reach for my phone instead and check wX for actual weather and Radar Scope for local radar.

I've always been an amateur meteorological buff, and I have a lot more apps related to weather and conditions for specific purposes (like an astronomy watching app that helps with my Astrophotography obsession on my phone), but these are the 3 I regularly use, along with the native Google Weather that is on my home-screen.

My main concern based upon the prior Windows releases is that Microsoft makes sure all the bugs are minimized. I still remember the probems I had going from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I spent over two hours on the phone with a Microsoft representitive that took control of my computer. They could not find the problem (which now I can't remember) and they told me to go back to Windows 7 (which I did). I finally tried a clean install and that worked.

In all fairness, with hundreds of millions of Windows 7 installs or more, they simply cannot make it 100% bug proof. Although not completly true when looking at raw numbers, still, even if only 20% of those are unique installs (versus mass imaging for SOHO installs or corporate installs) that's still 100 million installs that are unique. And I'm just counting software installs, not even taking into consideration differences in hardware, both regionally and individually.

I managed to luck out that my older system was a good fit for Win10 - I was running leaked releases directly on my bare metal system (albeit with issues) but when it came time to 'upgrade' I had few issues. But some had fewer issues than I did, while others had more.

What *I* Hope is that this time they don't allow in-place upgrades from anything before 10 to 11. I don't mind them allowing the upgrade via a legitimate key - but most OSs I've used don't play nicely when upgrading the entire OS to a new major version, without clean installing at some point. Apple seems to be one of the few that does, but I also have almost no experience with major version upgrades for MacOS / OS X / Mac OS to begin with, so if similar issues exist in that that realm, I just don't know about them. The reason I say only 10--> 11 is because I think that the upgrade process will be easy between the 2 as they will likely be closely related. But both 7 and 8 are too different from 10 (and thus 11) so I think those should be blocked.

I know folks here are probably gonna not like me saying that, but that's how I feel.

How and when will Microsoft roll out Windows 11?

So far, officials haven't said. But rumors indicate that Microsoft is going to make Windows 11 available in a two-step process. PC makers and Windows Insider testers are expected to get the first, largely incomplete version of Windows 11 this summer (maybe even this month). And Microsoft is expected to make it available to mainstream users this fall.

We aren't sure how much (if any) of Windows 11 will be delivered via Windows Feature Experience Packs in addition to Windows Update channels. Former Microsoft Principal Program Manager Michael Niehaus discovered there are some new items in the Windows 11 Feature Pack, including some composable shell, search UX and files supporting a new "Get Started" app.

Right-click and uninstall?

I don't think there's anything there to uninstall. It's more of a place holder for later development,.

Oh, it's real...

... just no way to uninstall it!

When I watched a video it was real but it really didn't do that much. I suspect it will do more later and I hope we can uninstall it.

Even Windows Setup has the new icons.

As I lay me down to sleep,
I pray that Microsoft doesn't make me weep.
I hope that the event at 11 AM
does not fill me with disdain.
Maybe my expectations are too high,
in the hopes that a rebirth of Windows is nigh.
So now it is time for this geek
to nod off and get some sleep,
and dream while I slumber
that eleven will be a lucky number.
