Websites that superheat and force up the fans on your CPU, memory, GPU?

I mean these kinds like these click bait stories for adds.


I decided to click on it and as I get further in, the fans start speeding up, faster and faster on both CPU and GPU, I mean audibly much louder.
I eventually got tired of the noise and closed the tab, then the PC slowly settled down to normal. Normal for me is to have 30 to 40 tabs open.
I was running chrome when it did this, and I have seen PC do it many times, basically when ever I view these story things and keep clicking next.
The link is where I got tired of the racket from the PC, so maybe half way in.

CPU gets close to 90%, and GPU is 45% when it is freaking out on a web site like this,
But after closing and it settles down to normal, CPU will like 20%, GPU 12% even with 40 tabs open.

What do websites like this do to my PC to make it act like that?

OK, here is the first main page of the story, Now I just reclicked the link and withing 30 seconds I can hear the fans slightly sped up, I f I click next, and next, next, the fans get louder and louder and the PC utilization creeps higher and higher. Eventually sounding like a plane taking off.

I just went through the whole story.
Other than some atrocious English, I didn't notice anything strange, and I monitor my fan speeds.
It is kind of weird that it was spread over so many pages though.

I am on Windows 10 at the moment.

Of course it will eventually bog down your cpu and your graphics if you keep clicking next next next. You're throwing more at your hardware than it can handle. Even if they're paused the videos in all the tabs are still using resources. What happens if you load one of the videos in a single Chrome tab? Does it also happen when watching a normal youtube video? What does task manager tell you is overloading the cpu when this is happening? If it points to Chrome, there's your answer.

I occasionally watch such videos, but only one at a time.

Do you also have hardware acceleration enabled in your browser settings (if available), try turning it off and see if there is a change in behaviour.

You tube is perfect, I dont have any issue playing video on any other sites.

Next is not opening a new tab though, so why does it accumulate more issues after each next is clicked?

I'm not going to visit the website but my only conjecture is that the site is continuously loading and running several JS scripts at once; who knows what they're doing?

Additionally, background loading, advertisement loading / pre-loading, next page pre-loading (which will use a lot of resources if you enable it for browsers that support page / link pre-loading), and more.

It could be any of these, and any combination of any of these all mentioned by everyone here.

Pre page loading, that is interesting thought...like the browser sees next and somehow knows to preload over and over?
How do you turn that off?

I get so many tabs open, they run off the page to the right and I cant see them unless I x out of tabs. But me doing that has never caused fan spin up or any other issues.

This is a common ploy by sites like taboola - you get a zillion ads per page and stories that fit in one page spread over umpteen pages. Worse, the continue buttons do not fully become live for a few seconds and you end up clicking on ads. In other words, the story is incidental - intent is essentially ad click baiting.

Exactly. When on such sites, there's no telling what is is loading in the background because sites like that care only about selling the ad space, not what the ads contain.

I think they get paid from every ad that is on the pages they can get you to click on.

With Addblock that site doesn't even crack 1% of CPU, with it off 3-4%.

By default it uses up to 40% of mine CPU, with merely tracking protection, it is about 2%.
Generally disabling scripts makes webpages to load fast and light, but it might break them.
