What is DPI, what do the settings do, and how do I know which one I want?

I have a G903 Lightspeed mouse. Recently, it fails to register a click from me. The mouse is interactive with Logitech GHub software. Are there settings that will ensure when I click, I get the proper response.

Your gaming mouse most likely has a DPI switch that you can click and change to pre set or DPI settings of your choosing. (On-the-fly Different mouse speeds)

This can be great for gaming and also when switching to other functions on your PC like using Word for instance. I like a faster DPI in my games and a slower one in apps.

I don’t have your model and haven’t yet looked it up, but it aso most likely has On-Board profiles you can switch to, meaning once you setup On-Board profiles, you could actually remove the bloated software and switch between profiles on your mouse instead.

There is a lot to Logitech Mice, the software doesn’t always make it easy.

You could also just use the portable On-Board Memory Manager as apposed to GHub. Unless you have other Logi products that rely on GHub

Thank you for the response. What is DPI? In layman's terms please, I'm just an end-user. I also have a G933 Headset on the GHub. To answer your question, it is while playing an online golf game, where I need to right click the mouse on a meter. Many times lately, the click (the last one of three) to initiate a shot in the golf game, simply "mouse farts" or "slides by" the point where I need to click, which results in a very bad shot. I believe the mouse does have a DPI switch, but I have never used it.

When you change a DPI with one of the buttons below (I am guessing in the image I attached) you’re changing the mouse movement speed. That’s what DPI is, mouse cursor speed settings on your screen.

Changing speeds can be beneficial depending on what you’re doing.

When I use photoshop, I change the mouse speed (DPI) to very slow because of the intricate things I do in photoshop.

As for the mouse click, I couldn’t tell you. Reads more like a game issue than a mouse issue

You can use GHUB to set different speeds. As I don’t have your mouse it’s hard to show you.

DPI is dots per inch.
The higher the number the more sensitive the mouse.

A 1000 DPI mouse might require you to move it two inches to have the cursor move across a 30" screen.
A 2000 DPI mouse would only require you to move it one inch for the cursor to travel the same distance.

In the first part of that video where he is changing the DPI slider.

When you click the left DPI button (Image above) on your mouse, it will go toward the bottom of the speed scale you set. (Slower every click until you reach the slowest speed)

When you press the right button it will move to the higher end of the DPI scale. (Faster every click until you reach the fastest speed)

The lights will change (image above) depending on what DPI is selected.

DPI is "Dots Per Inch".
A similarity would be to sandpaper grades(Grits) very fine sandpaper would have a high PPI "Particles(grit) Per Inch", coarse sandpaper a low PPI.

In the case of an optical mouse which is usually a light source and receiver, the mouse surface reflection changing is what the mouse detects.
So the mouse mat(surface roughness) also affects the DPI.

The functional errors could be due to one or more of these factors.

1. User response. People vary in dexterity as regards using mice. Some people prefer other designs like a track ball or whatever.

2. Mechanics of the microswitches, audible clicks and mechanical feedback.

3. The characteristics and features of the mouse driver software. Plus the same for the games mouse driver.

4. Surface conditions of the mouse mat. Things like polishing of the surface can, in time, give rise to a poor/unreliable response.

To add additional clariffication, if you are using normal apps, a high dpi can be irritating as your mouse might be on left side and you want to click something in middle but you overshoot and cursor ends up on right hand side and you have to pull cursor back.

As a rule, I use lowest dpi as it gives the best feel of precise control.

However in a game, an avatar of your ex might pop up demanding money or the ex will kill you (in the game I hope) on opposite side of screen, so you want the cursor to move as fast as possible to eliminate the ex (or alien if there is any discernable difference LOL).

Having said that a high dpi also (in theory) involves less hand movement, so it could be beneficial to people susceptible to repetive wrist strain injuries.

DPI = Dots Per Inch and is used to measure the sensitivity of a mouse's linear sensor. Higher DPI = quicker mouse speed, lower DPI = slower mouse speed.

You pay more money for something you do not need, but it will make you look cool online.
Unless you are a pro-gamer, who literally plays for money, you will not notice a difference.

You can get more "DPI" by increasing the pointer speed at zero cost.

DPI can help with that, but you'll probably have to play with the pointer speed settings to find what works for you. Here's the DPI settings for the Logitech MX Master 3S under Logitech Options+ software....

I too am a gamer, but I don't adjust DPI setting, mine is disabled, and it's defaulted to max speed - 1500 DPI. Think of DPI as more precise way to make mouse pointer adjustments.
