What is that bottom bar that looks like "top of Android" with a short horizontal line in the middle?

What the heck is this new thing supposed to be? I got a tablet with Windows 11 Home and I can't seem to get rid of it.
Hiding the taskbar just hides the thick one with the icons but leaves this thin one in its place.
It has simple "statuses" like WiFi, Sound, Battery, Time", which I'm guessing it's supposed to be like the phones, where it would also have cellular bars if it supports a SIM.

Is there a way to get rid of it? I can't seem to find the setting.

It sounds like the system status bar for your tablet as you have guessed, but I would need to see an image of it before I can be definitive.

Check the tablets' settings, not the Window's settings for an option to hide it, assuming the tablet has it's own BIOS/settings of course.

Strange that it is on the bottom though, are you holding the tablet the right way up? Maybe it does not rotate with the screen either?

Are you able to flip it out of sight with a finger or pointer?

It would help if we knew the make/model of the tablet though.

That is your tablets' system status bar.

Unfortunately, I could not locate any decent documentation for that tablet, so I have no idea if you can access the BIOS/Settings for the tablet or not.

I think you are stuck with that bar on display all the time.

Are you able to expand that bar by clicking/tapping on the horizontal line and dragging it upwards?

Dragging the bar upwards only "transforms" it into the Taskbar.

Funny thing is...now it actually goes away with the keyboard attached!
This is only after I turned off "Rotation Lock" for the first time to check on you question above.
That must've reset some sort of setting binding to the surface keyboard.

But, yeah, it looks like it always pops up when I remove the surface keyboard.

That kind of makes sense, but it would probably be better if you could swipe it out of the way when the keyboard was detached.

Overall, how would you rate it's performance ... fast or slow or ???

Is the stylus as good as they claim?

Yeah, the "Tablet Status Bar" now goes away with the Surface Keyboard attached. I dug up a USB keyboard to try it, but it doesn't make it go away. :-/

The tablet is pretty fast. I haven't tried anything intense on it yet but for general Office Apps use and surfing, it's pretty smooth.

I just tried the stylus and it's pretty cool. I'm no artist or anything so I can't really tell how well it would be for drawing, but in Photos is seems to be work with pressure OK. And it has a decent detection distance for palm rejection. This pen came with 2 tips so presumably you might wear it out when you press hard.

The keyboard otoh....ugh.
In mine the touchpad Y-axis doesn't register on the bottom half inch or so, and the X-axis doesn't register on the right half inch. Amazon said the seller will send me a replacement so we'll see. This keyboard is very similar to my previous one (a KUU LePad bundle---which is curiously very similar to this Chuwi Ubook X) where I got one that was bent with a spacebar "low-sensitivity" issue. They must get it from the same Shenzhen street contractor or something. And that one, I had to send all parts to China and it came back with Windows Pro in Chinese. I eventually figured out how to change the language. lol

Yeah, at first I contacted them cuz I figured they just gave me a Chinese bootleg copy. They told me to send it back to China again! Then I poked around another computer and figured how to do it. I'm pretty sure they just gave me some employee's tablet that they weren't gonna use. It had someone's login and all.

But at least the keyboard worked. It lasted just shy of 2 years where I had to press the ribbon inside the fold for like 2 weeks to reconnect it until it totally failed. Not sure how long real Surface keyboards last. And the battery dropped to like and hour (from 4) in that time too. I'll have to admit I did carry it around a lot so...nothing lasts forever.

An update on my Keyboard defect in case anyone is interested.

They sent me a replacement keyboard...with the exact same issue! lol

I had suspected that they had a manufacturing issue where the machine misaligned the touchpad grid for this keyboard. I guess it must be a whole batch or something missed by QA (if existent). Either that or they bundled it anyway for "cheaper" in hopes that this "minor inconvenience" wouldn't warrant many returns. lol

Stuff like this is not a surprise from Chinese products though. One of the things you have to accept when going for cheap clones like this is the lottery effect. I mean, I've had experiences with this with educational products like sensors and other small electronics where I suspect they actually take reject batches and black market IP patterns and make copies for cheap on ebay and Amazon. You never know what you get, and although it might work under ideal conditions, they aren't robust or resistance to imperfect electrical conditions in your projects.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FOUR was a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (1st gen) type 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device. This has now been sold. It has been replaced by my System Eight.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
