What is the Win+PrintScr shortcut actually doing ? how can I associate it to something else ?

Hi, when I press Win+PrintScr on Windows 11, the whole screen dims for 1s and come back, so I understand that something has happened. But there is no information what actually happened: I do not see any screenshot image being taken.

I would love to open an application with Windows+PrintScreen shortcut: but Win key cannot be used inside the Shortcut key field of PicPick

To capture your entire screen and automatically save the screenshot, tap the Windows key + Print Screen key. Your screen will briefly go dim to indicate you've just taken a screenshot, and the screenshot will be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

My screen dims to indicate something is happening, but when I look into 'Pictures' folder, there is no 'Screenshots' folder:

Is there another location where all the screenshots I have done with Win+PrintScr have been stored?

I have found how to reassign the Win+PrintScr shortcut 🙂. To anyone also willing to use the Win+PrintScr for something else, you can use PowerToys keymapper module to get the Win+PrintScr shortcut overwritten :

Sir, you surprise me. In DOS the Print Screen key would send the desktop image to the printer. Thus the name, "Print Screen".
But, in Windows the image of the screen only goes to the "Windows Clip Board", and can then be pasted into your favorite picture editor program.

Pressing the Win key is not required to do a "Copy the screen to the Clip Board" operation. Just press the PS key.
I just tried it, with the Win key, and yes, the screen does dim briefly, but the image is still sent to the Clip Board.
So, why use the Win key? Definitely not required.
I do a Print Screen operation several times a day, but I've never used the Win key. Totally not required!!

'Win+PrintScr' and 'PrintScr only' are 2 very different keyboard shortcuts.
I have assigned PrintScr to PicPick and I have not assigned anything to Win+PrintScr. Both are doing different actions.

Why Microsoft has decided that in Windows 11, these 2 keyboard shortcuts do exactly the same thing in Windows 11 out of the box ? (weird decsion)

They don't. By default, Win + PrtScr causes the screenshot to automatically be saved to a file, whereas PrtScr just stores the screenshot data as a picture object in the Clipboard. It also is possible to move the save folder location to a different folder, i.e. via right-click on the Screenshots folder | Properties | Location tab | Move button.

Why some folks, want to take something SO simple and make something hard out of it, is beyond my comprehension.
