What is your Windows 11 restart time?

Mine is a week to ten days ... that's how often I reboot on average and then it takes as long as it takes to brew a coffee

Mine comes out as 42 seconds. But if I manually time the initial boot from cold, it's 16 seconds from pressing the button to the system being ready.

First time I have tried this. I got 50 seconds (Dell Vostro 17" i5 laptop from 2012 with W11 clean installed) however I was back here (Eleven Forums) in 40 seconds as measured with a watch. Also have to type my Windows login which I don't know whether add to the time reported or not.

Cold boot is 34 sec. from the time I punch the button til my signin screen appears. The tool says 44 seconds.

Exactly ... a cold boot is not the same as a restart ... this tool is ONLY for a restart measurement

Does the screenshot time including waiting for processes we don't know about to complete?

I posted a screenshot of 50 seconds yesterday but commented I could be back here on this site in 40 seconds. I can also say the normal desktop appears in around 30 seconds timed by a watch.

So a simple question :) What is the criteria for the reported time calculated by the batch or vbs file to be judged as having completed?

The batch script will not wait for any processes to be completed. It will measure the time as soon as Windows has started. The batch script uses PowerShell to measure the time, while the VBScript file uses VBScript to do so.

Thanks Matthew. So the time reported by the scripts seems to be (in my case) significantly longer then the time measured by a watch when I see the desktop appear fully populated and ready to go. I time it manually from hitting 'restart' to the desktop appearing.

What is the criteria for the reported time calculated by the batch or vbs file to be judged as having completed?
When the restart has been completed, the items on the following list will be run:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Both the batch script and VBScript will be added onto the list. As soon as the scripts are run after the restart, the time will be measured and the scripts will be removed from the list.

That's useful to know. In my case then I would say it is going to be OneDrive that is adding to the time. That takes a few moments for the icon to change to synced and up to date.

I tried a boot to desktop from cold and a restart, I have a secure boot password and a pin number each time. Start: 28 seconds and restart 38 seconds. This is my W11 beta pc with the Athlon 3000G, I haven't tried it with the other one which also has secure boot, but only a pin number to put in. BIOS boot settings are default.
I can manage the timing quite easily with the second hand on my watch, no app needed.

Timing manually and subtracting the time to enter passwords, it's 17 seconds to shut down plus 29 seconds to boot and log in, for a total of 46 seconds (Ryzen 3900x, NVMe SSD).
