Guys for 10years ADSL 6mbps download and 0.80 upload and every second CRC ERROR.now 3months i have 200/20 fiber is HUGE diffrent

100Mbps download (actual speed (110mbps).
10Mbps upload.
£36pm on a retention deal.

Spectrum cable. 300 down, 30 up.

FTTC

BT fibre to the cabinet, last leg is copper.

Verizon 4G LTE Mobile. On the expensive side!

300/30 Mbps for $20 with cable TV (~100 channels), but I do not watch TV, so whatever.
I could have 1000/100 for $35, but why bother, Windows would limit it to 100 anyway, lol.

I have Virgin fibre, 215 Mbit down and 21 Mbit up.

Used to be Cable One, not it is Aspire who aspire to completely and totally upset all of their customers.

My relatives are paying for 200 gigabit gamer line, and if we get over 6 gigs, I'm surprised. Yup, I use speedtest.net

I'm with BT here in the UK and as I live in a coastal village even though it's called Fibre that is only to the box on the outskirts of the village then it comes over the original copper wires. We had the phone line put in when we moved in here in 1993, at first we had 2 lines, one for the phone and one for the fax machine.

Of course, when we were finally able to get broadband, over those lovely screeching dial-up tones, we got rid of the second line as we didn't need it anymore. We used to get about 3Mbps download with that, but now with Fibre we get about 62Mbps download and 18Mbps Upload.

Canalbox FTTH here in deepest darkest Africa (Republic of the Congo) at the equivalent of 80 USD/month. Expensive but so much better (and cheaper) than what I had before (2 Mbps via a radio link at 160 USD/month)......................................

It is interesting seeing differences in speeds between US and UK.

In UK, fibre broadband is (as another poster said earlier) is not true broadband for most fibre users but fibre up to local panels, and cables for last few hundred metres or so.

The reason our system is like that is a legacy of our old national telecomms system dating back to the days when all telecomms was supplied by one company (British Telecoms) who provided the infrastructure and the phone service.

Eventually, this was denationalised, splitting up supply of phone service from the network managenent.

There are a number of broadband service suppliers but they have to pay BT who still run the network for access to the neteork.

The upshot is that broadband is widespread and generally prices are (as far as I can tell) very competitive compared to US costs.

Unfortunately, the side effect is that majority of UK users get fibre/cable service, and by nature of design, it requires a massive upgrade to all the local supply systems to get true fibre right up to individual houses.

In the US, the telecomm structure was not so centralised, and some areas are covered more by one company than another.

The plus side is that upgrading US to full fibre was easier but competition for services lower as often no real alternative to the local main supplier.

The upshot is US have a more modern network but poorer service (I guess that is not so true now though).

So it is difficult to compare broadband just on speed.

For example, due to the competition for services in UK (it is easy to switch supplier), virtually all contracts are for unlimited broadband in terms of data, and often free uk landline calls as well. The average price is around £30 ($42) per month whereas seems average US prices are around $60 per month.

Bear in mind, UK prices include 20% tax as well compared with much lower US Sales Tax.

However, prices in US are more regional dependent, but in UK virtually region independent (albeit some remote rural areas are poorly served and are still on the old cable system).

In the end, I think it will be at least a decade before UK's broadband infrastructure will be true fibre. The problem is service suppliers have to indirectly fund the upgrades and most domestic users just do not really want to pay for the high extra costs, and indeed are not even aware that much higher speeds are possible. The truth is the hybrid fibre is fast enough for most domestic users.

When Google developed fiber neighborhoods it charged an installation fee.
Fiber was free for 7 years for speeds up to 5 Mbps download and approximately 1 Mbps upload.
For various fees end users could choose faster speeds with or without television.
Speeds are now up to 2 GB.

To pick a nit, there is no US sales tax. Sales taxes are from state and local governments. US Sales Taxes A few states (like New Hampshire) have no sales tax at all.

The US is a patchwork of taxes. Some states (e. g., Texas) have no state income taxes. The state in which I reside (Connecticut) has a personal property tax on cars.

In some areas, broadband pricing is high because of a lack of competition. In my area, the hard wired choices are Comcast (originally cable TV) and the phone company. The fastest service the phone company offers at my house is 25Mb DSL. Hughes Satellite is available in principle, but no one who can get anything else would go for that, because it's expensive. I suppose that I could use my cell phone as a WiFi hotspot, but the signal at my house isn't good enough. The free market can be pretty pricey, when you're dealing with local near-monopolies.

Ah, Spectrum.

I tried to give a friend a data/voice modem as a gift. Turns out that Spectrum doesn't provision VoIP devices that they don't provide. One rep told me that it was because of FCC regulations. That was a flat-out lie. I believe that they should be allowed to set their own business practices, but lying to justify them is uncool.

I'm a Comcast customer, in the same state (CT) as my friend. Not to praise Comcast, but they support customer-owned voice modems.

Cox Cable's Gigablast. I average around 760 down and 35 up.

My phone carrier (Republic Wireless) actually uses VOIP protocol, but doesn't require a VOIP-specific modem. No problems with that over Spectrum at all.
