What Type of Internet Connect Do You Have?

Mine is so-called Fibre from BT here in the UK. I call it 'so-called' because it isn't true fibre, it's on optical cable up to the cabinet in the main street and old standard cable from the box to my house. I think this is common here in the UK unless you live in a city or large town.

I agree. I also use my phone's mobile data as my computers' internet connection and it would have been interesting to know about others doing the same.

In my case, I deliberately adopted use of a mobile data dongle [& later a smartphone's WiFi hotspot with its own mobile data connection] almost twenty years ago. And I later added a "WISP" router so that my home network has internet access as a whole.
- A WISP router ["Wireless ISP" router] has the normal LAN & WiFi facilities for computers to connect to and also has an additional WiFi connection for its internet link.
- A WISP router's firewall and other protection mechanisms face that additional WiFi connection just as a cable router/modem's protections face its cable connection.
- Many people in blocks of flats have a communal internet connection over WiFi. That communal connection is their "Wireless ISP".

I have Xfinity Extreme Pro with 800 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up.

1000/100 , but my refridge generator did tell me to buy new beers,, cheers

Did have 100/100 , did go sideways in a bad manner , isp did fix that, copper cable and stuff , and it works ok.

Did have 200//25 but moved and now 110/12 cable broadband

It is possible that too many users are on-line with router,, does it work with cable ?

String has to be pulled tight ofc.
This actually works, btw. When I was in grade school, me and the girl next door had one set up.
It was probably 300 ft. from can to can.
String didn't work at that distance, we had to use fishing line.

Eventually, we decided text messages where better. So we used fishing line and two pulleys instead.

Funny, my sister and I did have phones with cable , very cool with tin cans though

A 4k box with 200 tv channels, 40 radio channels and a house phone line.
Mobile Vodafone Sim card with 5gb internet data and 5.000 free call minutes to all other carriers.
For all of this i pay 45€/month!
35€ for home plan
10€ for mobile plan

Uhu, 1Gb down and 100 Mb up,, for about 15 $ per month

Our internet is a bit unusual.. It is deployed on homes by using an waterproof ethernet cable.

Well, some memories, 56kb modems , quite amazing download-speeds then. But today it's like to see "fresh paint to dry".

I started with a 14.4k modem (it was back-ordered for 6 months after our family got a Gateway 2000 machine, 486-SX/25 based). I quickly upgraded to a 28.8, then started getting Internet access from a local company called HomeNet, and then upgrade my modem to a USRobotics 33.6k (which had an available firmware upgrade to 56k).

After that I moved to Atlanta, got on broadband (cable-based), and never looked back at dial-up.

After building my home 2 years ago, I moved to Fiber, and now I'll never look back at Cable-based broadband.

That is called Fiber to the Curb, it's still Fiber, and is similar to what a lot of cable companies are doing here in the US, using Fiber to the neighborhood, and then Coax from the neighborhood boxes to the individual homes.

Yeah, Comcast is pretty pricey in some areas.

We're out in the sticks, so my options are rather limited. I can get crappy satellite, AT&T's fastest is like 30Mbps even though we're only about 100 meters from the CO with a dedicated line that has zero T's in it. Then there is wireless or cellular with 40-50Mbps. Or we can get Comcast.

We pay $105 for 1200 down/40 up, but our current X-Fi modem only supports gigabit. Reminds me that I need to call them for the upgraded device that supports 2.5GB. (Also note that our plan should run us about $150 a month, but if you call and spend some time working with them, you can get the price dropped.)
