The thing is, Gary, that some of us find it absolutely necessary to have the taskbar on top.

I teach Windows 10 at our local Senior Center, which has been shut down for at least two weeks (member has COVID and was at Center), so we have to go back to Skype. Which covers anything on the bottom of the screen, including the taskbar.

When I share my screen, the taskbar must be on top so my students can see it.

This whole Windows 11 Taskbar issue appears to be a false alarm. Taskbar is to be separated from Windows Explorer in Windows 10 (possibly in 21H2) and become a Taskbar process of its own with a very considerably enhanced functionality: access to weather, news, stocks, capable of installing third-party apps, check online, etc. all of which can be personalized. Obviously, Windows 11 is sure to follow, the present awkward Windows 11 Taskbar limits is only temporary.

I am not a fortune teller, but Windows 11 RTM Taskbar can be positioned along any 1 of the 4 sides of the screen and moreover, can do MUCH, MUCH more

I prefer it at the bottom, that being said, everybody's situation is unique and what processes they follow in day to day life is a personal choice. Freedom to choose is the way to go, but lets wait and see what RTM brings when it finally hits the airways before we write the OS completely off.

Bottom but as others have said it is an individual choice and should remain so.

Winaerotweaker now has an option to convert the Win11 taskbar to Win10 so it can be moved around. I enabled it (it breaks the clock, Start menu, and a couple of notifications but they can all be fixed.) I moved it to the left where I always kept it since getting my first 16:9 monitor. I also was able to add True Launch Bar to the toolbar. I was forced to use Win 7 Start. So a rollback of 10 years or so :)

And... I put it ALL back to Win11 defaults. I found dragging my mouse up to the left top was as much of a pain as closing a full-screen window X. I seem to usually have my mouse somewhere near the middle of the screen and I got spoiled. Who knew? So I have given up 3% of my vertical height to have the taskbar at the bottom.

The other surprise was how much better the new Start Icon is than the old Win7/8 version, esp the right-click windows commands. That was a no-brainer to put the Win11 version back.

Perhaps MS actually did do some ergo dynamic testing after all and didn't just do it to upset folks. Be careful what you wish for.
