Windows 11 Pro version 24H2 build 26100.3775
I have Office 2021 installed and I thought it would use that dictionary but some of the simplest words or typo on web forms and other things can't find the words. Just wondering which dictionary Win 11 uses so I can move forward trying to find out why the dictionary is no good.

Thanks

I do not know but if all else fails aspell is free. If it is the same as my experience back in the 2000s it sits in the tray and monitors the active windows. You should be able to use it with most anything.

Edit: aspell for windows

Edit2: maybe not what you need. The old Windows aspell would check the selection with a hotkey.

I think companies have somehow complicated spellchecks, then broken them. It doesn’t matter what I am doing, word (although it isn't that bad) firefox on PC & safari on iDevices, more than often there is a bizarre suggestion.
For example, the other day when wanting to type ‘spot’ I typed ‘slot’ the only option I was given as a correction was ‘stop’. That’s just one example, there are so many. And it isn’t always the same, sometimes it will give me the correct spelling or intention.

I type badly, especially with onscreen keyboards. I often hit the “B” key instead of the ‘space’ key. Another example ‘thatbis a problem’ the correction it makes is ‘thatb is’ wth? Dumbass Ai for a dumb (me) typer.

I don’t know what the answer is so I am watching this thread 👍

Doesn't Office 2021 have it's own dictionary and you select the language under review -language?

Win 11 doesn't have or use any dictionaries, the dictionaries are a function of the individual programs

E.g. Firefox > Settings > General > Language
1) Choose the language to display Firefox menus, pages, messages, closest to your preferred option. I'm in Australia so I choose English (GB) rather than the Americanised spelling
2) Then as a separate option you can then choose your preferred specific language from the dictionary for displaying pages and for spell check

There probably will be similar settings for Chrome (can't help you there, don't use it but I know other Chromium based browsers I use have such settings)

You can also add specific language dictionaries to MS Word.

I suspect your difficulties arise from the choice of an inappropriate/incorrect dictionary in the programs that are causing issues, and not Windows11 fault/problem

True.
So notebook uses it’s own dictionary?

Thanks
As far as I am aware Windows OS has no in-built dictionary or Spellchecker. To prove my point, just mis-type a word in the Windows Search box, and you will see that there is no auto-correct or suggestions made for the correct spelling.

Web Search Engines and Word Processors have their own autocomplete/spellchecker/dictionaries. Those are integrated into the App services and are not generally available in the Operating System Search box.

The difference between dictionary and spellchecker is only defined by the fact spellchecker doesn’t give the definition of a word. Windows 11 does have spellchecker. What spellchecker uses as a reference, I do not know.

The difference between dictionary and spellchecker is only defined by the fact spellchecker doesn’t give the definition of a word. Windows 11 does have spellchecker. What spellchecker uses as a reference, I do not know.

Yep - a dictionary is not same as a spellchecker.

Of course, few dictionaries would not have following words, then definitions.

boat - face
butchers - look
dog - phone
apples - stairs
trouble - wife
Hank - starving
China - plate
Plates - feet
