If you understand how zero knowledge architecture works and how cryptographic keys work, then you can understand why password managers are universally recommended today. That's why I use and trust my cloud-based password manager. I won't argue with you or your beliefs though. Quite frankly, I don't care what you do with your systems.

If passwords are properly salted and then encrypted it makes no difference where they are kept. The convenience of having them synched between all my devices is why I use one. I don't think and passwords were compromised in the LastPass breach, but customer details were. But that has happened with many other companies.

I don't think any passwords were compromised with the LastPass breach either. That's why I continued to use LastPass for another year. But I was bothered by how LastPass had allowed a key developer to work at home on his home computer. I was finally bothered enough that I switched password managers. I decided on 1Password. I made the switch two years ago and I'm very pleased. 1Password's family plan is easier to use and for my wife to understand. That's key as we access some sites jointly, such as banking.

Wherever your passwords are kept, they still have to travel (encrypted) to the site where you are logging in, how can they be safer at home than in the cloud?

The threat is man-in-the-middle attacks or malware on the PC.

I loved LastPass, but moved to RoboForm, which is nearly as good. I might look at LP again, as it made it very easy to update/change passwords automatically.

My employer (a bank) has moved about 95% of our infrastructure to "the cloud".

This was my path as well.

I started off with LastPass, let the first data breach slide, but by the Development Environment breach, I had enough! But I remember in between the two there were other security vulnerability issues as well, so I gave them several chances but eventually they lost my trust.

Once I switched to 1Password, I have been extremely happy. As of late, however, what's annoying me is the Windows Hello integration: The TPM integration is buggy and very more often than not, I have to re-enter my very long master password! It's gotten so bad/unreliable that I'm now considering looking at other password managers. 😒
