I'm ok with Defender only. Online safety is mostly about user behaviour, not blocking stuff. This is why experienced users often say they haven't seen any infections in years.
Yeah I switched over couple years ago from paid AV. Haven't seen any infections from anything. At least not that I'm aware. My PC has mostly been running very well. But even with the paid AV, I haven't been infected with anything since my younger naive days, lol. Stick to legit websites with ad block and haven't had issues in decade or so.

I use BitDefendeer with Defender and Malwarebytes periodically. But I'm also of the zero trust camp, and I know that online safety these days is not just a matter of personally monitoring where you go - because advertisers are everywhere, and drive by infections directly from malformed advertising packets is a real thing.

Only way to truly be safe is to not be online - and I choose not to make that draconian choice, so... multi-layered protection it is.

This is a really good argument for antimalware software. Defender is ok, but I think there are better options with more protections.
It seems the pros here might disagree with me.

Anyone fancy a poll? 😁 ------ Are you happy to use only MS Defender?
Yes perfectly happy with Brain, Defender plus Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

I use Microsoft Security (Defender) and a multi-layer backup strategy.
Without a clean data backup, there is apparently no way out of Ransomware.

I permanently deleted my passwords & other artefacts from my lastpass account and have stopped using it. I've retained the account though. No more LP unless they get their act in order.
Ah, but how can you be sure that they have really gone? They may lurk on some dusty chip in Lastpass's memory!

Of course I am not sure every trace of it is wiped out from LP's data centre server storage, backups or even RAM.

Residual data (encrypted per LP's claims) may exist for an indefinite period of time. But as an end user I did the only practical thing I could...took a CSV backup, encrypted it and saved the encrypted file to multiple cloud storage accounts. Deleting the data from the "Deleted Items" folder was the final step. From now it's fingers crossed.

@kelper More secure because I keep it in an encrypted flash drive and not in a server that as far as LastPass is concerned has been hacked in the not too distant past.

@scopio You can try Sticky Password & Enpass ...2 PMs that offer an easy local sync option. Bitwarden offers self hosting. I use KeepassXC as a secure archival method for my data.

@kelper while it is used mainly with local storage you can choose to store KP's encrypted data on cloud storage platforms like Dropbox etc should you wish to access your data from other devices. For added security you can also set up a key file stored separately in a flash drive or portable hard disk that is mandatory to decrypt the data stored in the cloud.

LastPass can operate offline too, so I wonder why anyone would prefer KeyPass? 😉
LP has withstood more attacks so it may be better.
Anyway, nobody is after my passwords as they don't protect any high value assets.

Keepass is a very different model to LastPass and it's open source, I've been using it for years.
