Yeah I get that I just never have a use for it. It takes some time to create ISOs, it's actually quicker to install from an MS ISO and run Windows update after

From my own experience, MCT might be newer than downloading the ISO directly because it includes updates before creating it. Another difference is that MCT uses the new compressed file install.esd while the ISO uses the older install.wim which is larger. Back in Windows XP we could use an older ISO, even plain Windows XP without any Service Pack and use a third-party tool called nLite to include the Service Packs and create a Windows XP SP3 ISO. We could also include drivers and other updates. Injecting the SATA drivers in the ISO and then burning to CD-R was the only to downgrade a Windows Vista laptop to Windows XP SP3 as the original ISO could not detect the hard disk. Guess what! There is an equivalent tool for Windows 10/11 called NT Lite that can get the outdated official Windows 11 ISO and convert it to the latest build. You can also include drivers and other updates.

I agree for a clean installation or upgrade from Windows 10 or old Windows 11 version. But to do an in-place upgrade/repair you need a latest build ISO. So you either use UPP Dump or NT Lite to update the official Microsoft ISO to the latest build. If I remember correctly someone said current ISO is already latest build 26200.9445 I will download it before 26H2 is released so I have the newest 25H2 ISO just in case I need it. I always keep older ISOs you never know when they become handy.

PS: Rufus also can download the Windows 11 (and earlier) ISO but I don't remember if it is the latest build or just the last official Microsoft ISO.

Actually you can do an in-place upgrade using the same Main version number - you can have 26200.9445 installed but use any 26200 ISO, then run Windows update after. I've done that myself (not recently I admit)

You don't even really need an ISO to do an in-place anyway, just run the Reinstall thing in Settings > recovery. It'll always install the currently installed version.

Unless you're running on unsupported hardware...

Then, it's either a Rufus ISO, or an official ISO running setup.exe /product server to bypass the checks.

I am not sure. I would rather manually do an in-place upgrade repair using the ISO and bypassing compatibility check. Regarding if you can do it with any 25H2 ISO or updated to latest build was a debate in another thread. Most said it must be the latest build. Personally I used any same version ISO back in Windows 10 and then reinstalled some updates as necessary. Haven't done it on Windows 11 but it should work too with any 25H2 ISO.

Rufus (or more properly the Fido2 subsystem) can only download the current official ISO (which is March 2026). It and other similar Windows ISO downloaders of the same type will browse a known MS web interface. This interface limits them to the direct download ISO's.

To get other builds, you still need MCT or UUP dump.
