Why does my Laptop fail

Windows 10
I Have an ASUS Viviobook with W10, it has a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.71 GHz
CPU, the minimum requirements are 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on
a compatible 64-bit processor.

It seems to me that my unit should pass but the test result was FAIL

Any idea why it fails

Regards

Daniel

You have a 7th gen processor. Check the compatibility list for Intel processors carefully and you'll find that nothing earlier than 8th gen is supported.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

What is the failure? Is it TPM and Secure Boot or any other error?

I have a Acer Spin laptop that for now runs Windows 11 just fine. Everything passes the upgrade test except the CPU. It's a 6th gen i7. I'm not going to image back to Windows 10 unless I'm forced to.

We always can push and force things to work since long time ago. I've just installed the latest build on an old and dusty Intel E5500, 4GB DDR2 RAM, old HDD with MBR partition, and no GPU. All running well. Just don't push and force too far. When we have the newest OS, doesn't mean that we need to have all newest softwares too. Old machines got narrower limit lines..

Meanwhile, I saw there are new custom built "Lite Edition" of Windows 11 everywhere on the internet, aiming for older machines. Some with TPM bypassed and preactivated. A proof for me that high-end requirements only applied for the 100% complete built of Windows 11.

The TPM (also RAM, SB, and CPU) check is on the Setup. Windows 11 won't check if your PC has the requirements.

The issue with custom builds of an OS is what you are getting in addition to what the hacker has removed, I would advise anyone and everyone to be very careful of any hacked version of any OS, but especially the OS of the moment Windows 11

It could be fine and work perfectly or it may be fine and work at a limited capacity for modern software or it may be full of nasties ready to be activated at a later date ;)

Yups. A friend of mine just got a ransomware attack recently. I would not suggest that "custom" built. I installed full "untouched" copy and add/remove the components later.

Meanwhile, I saw there are new custom built "Lite Edition" of Windows 11 everywhere on the internet, aiming for older machines. Some with TPM bypassed and preactivated. A proof for me that high-end requirements only applied for the 100% complete built of Windows 11.
Unless those "Lite Editions" of Windows 11 are a legitimate product provided by Microsoft, they are almost certainly pirated editions, and I wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole!

I don't have a problem with workarounds to get Windows 11 (legitimate Microsoft product) to install on one's older machine. I do however have a problem of piracy. I'm not condemning you, @blacxarea, but trying to warn the uninformed.

I have done a search on Windows 11 Lite, and cannot find one reputable vendor who has advertised Windows 11 Lite! If someone buys a copy of "Windows 11 Lite", I'm pretty sure that sooner or later, Microsoft will contact them . . .

I'm with you. I will admit that I did try the unofficial release of Windows 11 in a VM. There is no way I would use a unofficial hacked version of any OS.

I'm also with you! I using latest (official and Insider) versions of Windows ISOs and not worrying if the workarounds is not working -- there's so many workarounds to do from.

Hi

I believe that an official roll out will happen some time soonish.

I will wait until W11 is offered then.

Cheers

The Lite version does not remove the compatibility checks. It has removed some features to make it "light" (not even close), including Microsoft Edge, so there is no way to browse the Internet and download drivers, unless you install a browser first! Very "clever"!
