I work as freelance support engineer I can support all systems from XP upwards, most on a multiboot system. Initislly i upgrded a Win 10 system to Win 11 to familiarise myself with thye new OS.

It appears as in the past Microsoft delivers a new OS which is a mish-mash XP to Vista; Win 7 to 8, and now Win 10mto 11. Is there a pattern here?

This isn't a comprehensive list, but there appears to be some arrogancy in Microsofts approach, or certaibly a lack of psychology in delivering a system which appears to amke changes for the sake of change - has Microsoft hear of the old adage, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". BY all means offer new and exciting options/apps.

1. As a freelance engineer, forcing microsoft accounts on Home, (and soon of Pro?) makes life difficult if clients are away, don't want a microsft account, - Isn't an issue on upgrades. but is on new systems. Big Brother?
2. Many things in 10 which require one click require 2 in 11.
,3. More difficult to make certain apps as default, eg Chrome.
4. Tough hardeware demands is somewaht unecessary,( and arrogant). Many users will not upgrade, at least until it becomes time to buy new. Older systems life is being extended by a relatively inexpensive upgade to SSDs
5. Rather narrow sliders for scrolling, look pretty but impractical
6. Task bar issues discussed elsewhere.

This is just for starters!

PS Many clients are asking me to downgrade to Win 10

I would have thought a support engineer would know how to make adjustments to any version of Windows to meet the needs of his clients.

That's how it appears (Maker is arrogant) when you look at it purely from the user perspective. Companies are increasingly making products that provide a revenue stream throughout their life cycle. All decisions that companies make revolve around this concept. So every change that inconveniences the user has some direct or indirect relationship with how companies can make money out of it.

I agree that Corporations sometimes go too far where there is total disregard for user privacy and choices. The user, therefore, has to find ways to configure and use the products they buy that best suit their requirements.

Microsoft pushing OneDrive, Edge, and other apps are to make consumers start using them over other alternatives, and this gives them the opportunity to make money. The inability to export and import browser bookmarks on mobile devices is another example.

Forcing the user to create an account enables Corporations to track the user more easily, and products (both hardware and software) are designed to lock the user into their own ecosystem, making it increasingly difficult for users to make a switch, i.e. creating a perpetual revenue stream for the Corporations.

I think the same thing happened when Windows 10 came out - people wanting to go back to 7. I agree about the extra clicks but there is a work around.

Hi,
Yep 11 needs a lot more work and even worse a third party to change the stupid start menu just to default to all apps instead of mini desktop like the worst ms release win-8 lol

It's tough to say who the hell ms is listening to but it sure can't be insiders
Either that or insiders are really silly now days
Start menu and show more never would of made it to release if ms did.

All ms really did was feed price gougers from people looking for a tpm chip mostly the same aholes scalping gpu's nice going ms

Otherwise indeed win-10 is easier to deal with because somethings you don't need to deal with at all :lmao:

Is there any evidence to support this? I see many claims regarding "Big Brother" but no actual evidence to support it other than some diagnostic telemetry data which you can probably turn off.

2. Many things in 10 which require one click require 2 in 11.
This can be a minor inconvenience, however, it is easy to amend with a simple registry setting change. I've personally got used to it so I haven't bothered with the said amendment.

,3. More difficult to make certain apps as default, eg Chrome.
Really? I have Brave set as my default browser and have had no problems at all.

4. Tough hardeware demands is somewaht unecessary,( and arrogant). Many users will not upgrade, at least until it becomes time to buy new. Older systems life is being extended by a relatively inexpensive upgade to SSDs
This isn't about the age of the hardware, Microsoft are trying to impose stricter hardware requirements for security reasons. Is it necessary? That is debatable but I don't see how it is arrogant?

5. Rather narrow sliders for scrolling, look pretty but impractical
6. Task bar issues discussed elsewhere.
Rather frivolous and can be changed quite easily.

The Start Menu is almost identical to Windows 10? You can pin the programs you use often.

All views are relevant. There were lovers of Vista & 8, but nevertheless "Big Brother" had to accept they were dogs for the majority.

The fact that techies have discovered "workarounds" to some extent proves that Win 11 is not everyone's cup of tea. For the average consumer these "workarounds" are not relevant; personally I have used them on my own systems, but one has to accept that they may create risk insomuch that further upgrades etc create the risk that the "workarounds" could make the system unstable, in other words are not applicable for the general publics' consumer systems.

So whats my point? I fix, upgrade, & install new systems, for third parties, hence workarounds are in the most part not relevant. If indeed techies are finding workarounds proves that Win 11 is not well thought out by Microsoft.. A common failure of computer developers (since year dot) they need to tread carefully between what the users want, while at the same time enhancing the "offer".

Hope that Microsoft gets the message, more people need to get the message to them.

I remember the outrage about Windows 10's start menu (not as much as 8) after Windows 7, but people got used to it. Agree some things are better if easy to use out of the box, but most people tweak settings to how they want on computers anyway. I personally don't like the right click menu but I'm sure people get used to it.

I'm finding windows 11 very nice. I started off not liking quite a lot of things e.g. the taskbar and applied tweaks to "put it back the way it should be" but after a while I decided to make the effort with the out of the box version and have come to enjoy it and find it very usable. The only thing I have altered now is the right click menu as there are a couple of things in the more options part I use frequently so I have the full menu. I did like the menu with the icons on top though. The one thing I miss is my large taskbar clock but I've found a desktop alternative that suits me (DeskTopDigitalClock) so for me all is good.

I just thought of one thing I don't like, focus sessions. The clock app always starts up at a focus sessions page and I have no use for them so it irritates me. Solution - I don't use Microsoft's clock app.

I found the icons made me squint too much - eyesight! Too small and very light - and had to have a pause for thought process as to which was which each time. But changing it to the full menu gets round that. I also got used to using it but still prefer 10 for ease of use. The fluidity and speed of Windows 11 is better though.
