I'm trying to use a different WiFi adapter (Atheros AR9271) but I can't seem to choose it anywhere. On windows 10 there was a drop-down option to select WiFi/WiFi 2 (like the attached) but that option no longer exists in Windows 11. How do I go about changing to WiFi 2 now?

I'm afraid that just shows me the list of available networks; I need to change the adapter itself.

If you can see your available networks there isn't anything else to do. The system has recognised the new adapter and found its driver. If you aren't sure which adapter is in use just check device manager.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi. You can turn on one, the other or both there and manage them and their connections independently, even connecting to two different WiFi hotspots at the same time.

Welcome to Eleven Forum

I have that in Windows 11 after I click on the '>' on the right hand side of the WiFi tile.

That's the same settings page I pointed too. If Wi-Fi 2 doesn't show, then there must be a problem with Wi-Fi 2. My guess is that it's a driver problem.

My thought too. I had to dig out an old WiFi dongle I hadn't used for years to set up that screenshot. Pleaseed to find it still works (thanks @Chopper for giving me an excuse to test it). It first appeare in Device Manager with a yellow warning triangle. I wasn't until I'd checked for updates in Windows Update and got the driver installed that it appeared as WiFi 2.

I had a Netgear N300 that last saw action when I had an XP laptop. Been collecting dust since then as the replacement laptop came with its own WiFi. Plugged it in and it was recognised, but Device Manager showed no driver was found for it. Just clicked Check for updates in Windows Update. The driver was found, downloaded from MS, then installed. That was all that was needed to get the WiFi working.
