Solved Will Windows 11 installation workaround be available in the future?

Hello!
I am one of the people who had problems installing Windows 11. My PC doesn't have TPM.

I have managed to install it without any problems using workaround.

Do you think Microsoft may patch all the workarounds in the future making the system unable to be installed other than on available devices?

None of my machines have TPM and one still uses MBR drives. Using Winpass11 i was able put both test machines on Windows 11.

I would guess Microsoft will be looking to stop us doing this as they seem to be dead set on reqiurements like UEFI, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on the basis of improved security. This is i believe, the only real reason for Windows 11 even being a thing.

I think workarounds will still exist. The problem is going to be upgradeability. I think chances are 99% that you will be able to clean install Windows 11 using a workaround. But then when the major upgrade comes through you may find that you can't upgrade. But there is also the prospect of being able to run your install in a VM, do the upgrade in the VM and then restore that back to the physical machine host.

Who knows? I would say some will probably still exist. There will be lots of push-back.

There will ALWAYS be workarounds.

Core i3 2100
DX9

Windows 10 Setup is just an stripped WinPE with install.wim or install.esd into it. The WIM or ESD is deployed by DISM. Windows 11 Setup has install.wim. You can replace the W10 install.wim into the W11 install.wim to make DISM deploy Windows 11.

Microsoft probably would not say it out loud, but workarounds are not meant to be blocked or patched.

PC users are generally not that sophisticated as the technical users are almost always in the minority.

Microsoft may have good reasons to encourage users to use security features but technically the software itself is meant to be similar to older version by design to ensure maximum compatibility.

Besides, PC ecosystem is always very diverse.

One setup may be fine for many users but may not be appropriate for certain users.

There is simply no one-size-fit-all setup.

That is both the strength and weakness of Windows PC.

Users have to make numerous changes to the system to suit their own unique needs.

Workaround has always been around.

Microsoft have already talked about certain markets not requiring to meet some or all of the hardware requirements, there is the "in" for those who wish to develop a workaround - microsoft's own people would have already done most, if not all the work, It could be as simple as changing the "Locale Experience" setting for the installer, though I would expect it to be more complex.

I would not be surprised if the hardware requirements were to be made optional in some versions of Windows 11 to meet the needs of Major corporate customers who are Microsoft's "Bread & Butter" consumers.

Although these large customers would most benefit from the added security measures in Windows 11, they also tend to have a lot of investment in older hardware that will not be compatible with the requirements

There is an old adage " What man can invent, man can circumvent" which has always applied to all kinds of software security systems, I doubt that is is going to be changing anytime soon

One of my machines meets the requirements so I'm good with that one, the other doesn't. I would imagine that updates may be blocked and not just major ones, maybe staying on the dev channel would work after public release? I don't think I've been on anything other than an insider build since 2015 so again staying inside doesn't bother me either.

Thoughts?

Time will tell.. it logically makes sense since MS stated that the Dev is being allowed to run on non compliant PC's.

Although it's hard to know for sure whether any particular "deficiency" in minimal system requirement will prevent the upgrade to retail Windows 11, it's possible to make some assumptions basing on common sense.

I suppose that clean installation of Windows 11 to "incompatible" PC which can be done using the known Registry mod:
will be disabled in final version. It's quite easy predictable. The installation will probably require the significant modifications of setup Registry, or replacing some installer files with files from beta/dev version or replacing the compatibility checking module. And any such modification can be easily prevented by developers simply by proper check of file version and its digital signature.

However, I think that the future of current "incompatible" PCs with Windows 11 is not so hopeless. Less significant problems, like Kaby Lake CPU (7th gen) of others which still allow to switch to Beta channel from Dev should not be a problem for receiving new Beta versions even after release. Less predictable situation is with PCs which are "frozen" in Dev channel (like my one). While I don't think that reverting to Windows 10 will be forceful, it's very likely that OS will stop to receive the next Dev updates and any other update besides new device drivers, Windows Defender updates and ability to manually install new apps from MS store. However, I think that the in-place upgrade from Dev to Retail will be possible without much problems or at least much easier than clean installation.

They have 20 pin TMP headers, but I can only find 14 pin TMP modules.

Does anyone know if the newer 14 pin version can be used on the older 20 pin header ?
Currently trying to connect with ASUS to ask.
Not having any success.

Still running Windows 10 Pro 21H1 until I know whats what.

Does anyone have any info ?

I didn't say it was affordable and I doubt a 20 pin can be found at a decent price. But.. heck, I found one.

Will not matter as the CPU in the Z97 will be a Devil's canyon 4790k at best so not on the list for RTM.

Thanks for that info.
I found an old ASUS add for these, about $24 at the time.
Considering the interest and demand, I think that one of the computer peripheral manufacturers will come up with something.
Either that or Microsoft will do something to make this a BIOS issue that can be sorted out with a BIOS update by the MoBo makers.

Certainly not going to pay the vast amounts being asked for by this vendor on Ebay.
Can't blame them for trying.

I wonder how long Microsoft will continue to support W10.
Any thoughts ?

How will this CPU cope with this issue ?

Yes, maybe along the lines of Windows 10 N and KN.
I know those versions are media related, but it's possible that they could have a special hardware deficient version.

And Microsoft also need to think of poorer countries when implementing hardware requirements that are really not necessary to run the operating system.
