Solved Win 11 Boot Sequence

I could / would appreciate some help on a problem I first noticed several weeks ago. I'm using a year old Windows 11 (24H2) laptop.

When the system boots the UEFI (BIOS) name (Style Note) appears on the screen then the screen goes black; the command prompt screen with flash on for about a second then the screen goes black. But, after about 5 to 8 seconds the UEFI name (Style Note) appears again and the system completes the start-up process normally.

Any idea why it appears to start the boot process twice? Where can I check in the system to see what's happening?

Any thought would be appreciated.

Sometimes this can happen if you run a multi-boot system, even if you no longer run multi-boot. Check your boot order in your UEFI BIOS. If that looks good then run CHKDSK. If that works out fine do the SFC /Scannow command. If that checks then try DISM cleanup commands >> Cleanup

Thanks for the recommendations.

I've tried them all, but the problem has not been resolved. Still booting the UEFI twice.

Was not exactly sure of the term "Metro Style" boot. So I asked Copilot and got a reasonable answer: "Turn off "Metro Style" Boot:"
Opened Administrator Command Prompt and entered:

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

It responded as being successful. However by boot sequence did not change.

It is likely I did not do this correctly.

hmmm... This one's a bit of a conundrum. Just for the fun of it did you try using any third party software such as EasyBCD?

Solved it!

My system has a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU and an 13th Gen Intel Core 13900HX CPU.

There is System Control software that helps manage the system (not part of Windows 11 Pro). This System Control software has an option to manage the system graphics. It has a GPU switch with two options: Discrete GPU Only and MSHybrid. One of these choices must be selected.

When the Discrete GPU Only is selected the boot sequence loads the UEFI (BIOS) twice; once for GUP and then it starts again for Windows 11 Pro this time with the rotating which semi-circle that is typical of Windows 11 start-up.

When the MSHybrid is selected the boot sequence loads the UEFI (BOIS) once which starts the Windows 11 Pro Software.

I'm curious. Are you still using bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy ? (I'm a multi-booter so stuff like this piques my interest.)

I'm using the Legacy configuration. I tried "standard" but when that didn't affect anything, reissued the "legacy" command. And, that's what showing today.

Good job! I'll prob have to do the same with mine since I lost my GUI on my virtual RAID again while attempting to install 23H2.

This may no longer be an issue as I just finished pulling the trigger on one of these:

I liked everything about this board, except for the price, and that it uses DDR4.

I like the fact that it uses DDR4 because I don't have to buy more RAM. I can just rob the Work Station I'm using!
