Win 11 Pro Boot Fail

Win 11 Pro Workstation 24H2 26100.3624
Built a new system & installed Windows 11 Pro. Mobo has Aspeed GPU and used this for initial testing & all good.
Added first Quadro P5000, installed drivers all good. Added second P5000 and fitted SLI bridge, card detected but Nvidia control panel had no provision to turn on SLI. Re-installed driver & SLI works. Ran Furmark to stress test system and all good. Switch off and bed!

Re-start PC following day and it locks up at the start screen, the windows wheel of doom is frozen after half a turn. However, if I hit F10 during Gigabyte splash screen and select Windows Boot Manager from boot menu PC runs OK.

Into system, remove Quadro driver using DDU, turn off and remove GPU's one by one and it still hangs. Both GPU's out and it still hangs!

Any takers for a magic cure?

In your BIOS on the Boot tab(?), set the Windows Boot Manager to be the first boot device.

Boot into Windows again... and take and post a screen shot of Disk Management...
Make sure you stretch out Disk Management so we can read everything.


To post a screenshot on this forum...
1. Take the screenshot, edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your pic and click Insert.
4. After clicking Insert, I usually choose the Thumbnail (smaller) option, or the Full Image (larger) option.

So... anyone else, feel free to jump in. I don't remember the commands to do the same. :(

I'm guessing that the C: partition and the EFI partition are NOT on the same physical drive?
When installing Windows, I always unhook all the other drives to prevent that from occurring.

You will need to wait for someone that can help with the command prompt commands, required to fix your boot files.

Turn on verbose status messages to see if startup messages give a clue where in startup process is hanging.

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
  3. Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates, and then click System.
  4. In the right pane, double-click Display highly detailed status messages.
  5. Click Enabled > OK.
  6. Close Group Policy Object Editor, and then click OK.
Note
Windows ignores this setting if the Remove Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages setting is turned on. So temporarily turn it off.
