Win11 keeps leaving .xml document folders on my desktop everytime i use a folder from my OneDrive. It just looks like a white blank page but the properties show the location of a folder that has been opened on my OneDrive when I have used it. Its really annoying to sit everyday and delete around a dozen white icons from my desktop all are .xml files of around 125kb. When you try open them it pops up for to install an app to open .xml files.
Does anyone have any idea how to stop this annoying feature ????

Many Thanks

Brian,

You should be able to drop .xml files into a Notepad window to read their contents. Perhaps that will shed some light on what's causing the problem.

I'm not familiar enough with MSAccounts & syncing to know if automatic syncing is a relevant factor.
There is some relevant information in this tutorial & in the Related Tutorials that are listed at the end of it.

Best of luck,

By any chance are these files/folders being created by Macrium or another backup program?

I would download Sysmon and create a configuration file which monitors any file create events on your Desktop. You should then be able to hopefully find which process is creating those .xml files.

Hi Guys,
Many thx for replies but it seems that these .xml files are being ceated by "Bitcomet" for some reason. But going through the options in BitComet I think I have solved the issue as they have stopped appearing on my Desktop.
Many Thanks
