Ever since the November 8th updates, in Win 10 or Win 11, Winaero Tweaker takes about 20-25 seconds to open.
This happens if I use the START Menu icon or run it directly from the executable file.

SFC and DISM Restore Health both come up with zero issues. No other program has this problem.

My guess is that Microsoft is messing around with Winaero Tweaker, via Windows Defender maybe?
Could also be Bitdefender I guess. But I have the problem even with Bitdefender disabled.

Complete uninstall and reinstall of the program doesn't help. Winaero works fine, it's just that instead of starting in two seconds, it takes 20-25 seconds.

Is anyone else having a similar problem with Winaero Tweaker of late. I'm on the latest version... 1.40

Somehow the blank.ico file for this tutorial was gone from C:\Windows

I just put it back, and ran the reg patch again. Seems to be fixed?
And now Winaero Tweaker is starting in about 8-10 seconds.

This may have happened when I uninstalled and reinstalled Winaero Tweaker.

I'm just gonna keep an eye on it for a while. Everything else works fine.
It just seems like something in the Nov. 8th updates in battling with Winaero... on Win 11 and Win 10.

It starts in about 2 secs (portable), but it is not digitally signed, that might be the issue, either with Smart App or Smartscreen.

I'm pretty sure I have Smart App and Smart Screen disabled on Win 10 at least.
Unless the latest update... re-enabled some of that.

But that does sound like it might be something along those lines.
Winaero "works" fine. It just seems like it's fighting, to start.

I have version 1.40.0.0 and it displays the UI in about 3 secs after I click on 'Yes' in User Account Control popup. I have Norton 360 security running, not Defender/BitDefender.

That seems to have been the problem. ^^
Must have been Microsoft... just "helpin' out" again.

I've had Smart Screen disabled for a long time.

The only thing that really changes on my system is... Microsoft.
Everything else, has been the same since I built this comp.


Anytime I do "test" some new software... I just restore from a backup if I don't keep it.

Well... the problem was Bitdefender Internet Security.
When I went to Threat Defense and added the entire Winaero Tweaker "folder" to the exceptions... the problem went away.

The hard part in this one was I had added "winaero tweaker.exe" to the exceptions and that wasn't enough.
When I added the entire folder... it fixed the problem.

It took restoring to two different backups to finally pin down the problem.

@Brink So it wasn't Smart App control.




That fixed it on both Win 10 and Win 11.
I went back to Oct 29th first. Problem wasn't there, until Bitdefender had an update that required a restart.
So then I moved forward to Nov 8th, right after patch Tuesday... problem wasn't there, until Bitdefender updated.

So, adding the entire Winaero folder to the Threat Defense exception on Win 10/11, fixed the issue.
