Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2) RTM build 22621 general availability after Sept. 5, 2022

  • Staff
UPDATE 8/16:

UPDATE 6/7:

UPDATE 5/24:
Windows 11, version 22H2 certification build

Minimum acceptable build for Windows 11, version 22H2 certification is RTM build (i.e. 22621).

Windows 11, version 22H2 based systems may ship with drivers that have achieved compatibility with Windows 11, version 21H2 until Sept 5th, 2022.
Partners looking to achieve compatibility for systems shipping with Windows 11, version 22H2 Release may use drivers for components that achieved compatibility with Windows 11, Version 21H2 until Sept 5th, 2021

Whispers and murmurs about Windows 11 22H2 (codenamed Sun Valley 2) reaching release to manufacturing (RTM) status soon have been doing the rounds for a while now, with a report suggesting that it is happening this month itself. Another more recent report claimed that the latest Beta Channel build 22621 was the RTM candidate, with the sign-off on May 20, which is just under a week away.

Today, famed leakster and Twitter user WalkingCat has revealed the Windows 11 22H2 RTM date and it is just a few days after the May 20 signing-off. According to WalkingCat, Microsoft will be signing 22H2 or Sun Valley 2 (SV2) on May 24. However, it wasn't revealed which Windows 11 build was the RTM candidate and so for now, the most likely candidate seems to be build 22621 as suggested by yesterday's report.

There are many updates for the release candidate build before it becomes public. 22000 was released to Insiders on 28 June 2021 as build 22000.51. Those of us who installed it then, whether we were Insiders or not, got a series of nine cumulative updates as Microsoft developed the OS and fixed bugs before the public release of build 22000.194 on October 4th.

The full list of pre-release updates, and what was fixed or added in each, can be found here.

In is inevitable that the same process will happen as 22H2 build 22621.1 is got ready for its release date. And anyone who is running 22621.1 now should be confident that they will get all the pre-release cumulative updates.
in that page.

yes there are updates. But not public.

updates for everyone only when to become public.

and the most certain is when 22621 becomes public, come with updates "22621.xxx..."

Yep - people do not always understand the final RTM version issued to all users is usually XXXXX.YYY and it get automatically gets updated to latest cumulative update (YYY) during upgrade process.

It is kind of more obvious if you download iso to upgrade as that is often XXXXX.1 (but can be different) and then you have to manually update using latest cumulative update.

In the end, it is semantics as you end up with XXXXX.YYY in the end either way.

It is rare the iso is XXXXX.YYY as that would mean it needs to be changed every time there was a cumulative upgrade. Typically the iso only gets update if needed to avoid installation issues or when the LTSC version is being released).

As an aside, I am rather surprised how long we are waiting to see any bug fixes to be issued to Beta version. I hope we just do not get one big cumulative update at last minute!

Anyone can install any Insider build. You don't even need to join the Insider program, you can use UUPDump to build an ISO for any build you like with files that are downloaded direct from Microsoft.

Once installed it will get all the updates that are released to Insiders, regardless of whether you join Insiders or not. As I said, I ran 22000 21H2 from the end of June until the end of September 2021 and got every update that was issued, even though I have never been an Insider.

I'm now running 22621.1 on a couple of my machines. I expect MS will release a cumulative update for it next week. and when they do I fully expect my 22621 machines to get it through Windows Update, just as they did with the pre-release 22000 builds.

this is not an argument "Anyone can install any Insider build. You don't even need to join the Insider program, you can use UUPDump to build an ISO for any build you like with files that are downloaded direct from Microsoft."

so I can also say: "everyone can watch movies netflix, hbo... without paying, just go to the website X and download it"

is not an argument

In Microsoft site say about of UUPDump: "The files are downloaded from Microsoft servers so the files are legit though the legality is still on the gray side. Microsoft has not authorised them to distribute the files and as they mentioned they are not affiliated to Microsoft so it is not completely legal. "

Because if you had posted the rest of the quote it would have been, "** Please note I am an independent advisor which means I have no say in the development of windows or any Microsoft process. I am a user just like you here to help others."

You posted a response from a user who was no more authorized to speak on Microsoft's behalf than you or I are. Yet you claim that it was Microsoft's statement on the matter.

what does github have to do with the matter?

There is no lack of legal clouds "sites" with full of illegal material.

for example Google :boom:

and github has illegal material hosted

below is a github link with links to some pirated material hosted at github

GitHub - Igglybuff/awesome-piracy: A curated list of awesome warez and piracy links

and another:

GitHub - SeppPenner/awesome-german-piracy: A curated list of (not only) German piracy sites.

DMCA Notices Took Down 19,276 GitHub Projects Last year

GitHub received 1,828 valid DMCA takedown notices last year, which resulted in the removal of 19,276 projects. Less than one percent of these projects were reinstated following retractions or counter-notices. The developer platform uses automated tools to scan for abuse, but this technology is not used for copyright infringements.

what the point?

I rest my case.

to better understand reading:

for example:

Version numbers for the major.minor.build.rev of Windows 11 structure are as follows – Windows 11 👉 10.0.22000.708
  • Major = 10
  • Minor = 0
  • Build = 22000

You are just being ridiculously argumentative. Nobody ever refers to first two numbers.

You are just being ridiculously argumentative. Nobody ever refers to first two numbers.

@NavyLCDR, @Bree, @Wynona, I agree with earlier post by @NavyLCDR to agree to disagree, I am not going to waste my time replying to him.

Of course, I assume he will get the last word in demonstrating his "contrariness".
I beg to differ too. Beside regular build on main disk and PC I also run it in dual BOOT with insider dev. builds always updated to latest and occasionally another type of builds in a VM. As I like to have them all synced (looking same) I sometimes get mixed up which I'm running at a time so I forced all to display build on desktop and first 2 numbers tell me all I need at that time. The rest is interesting only when a new build or updates is announced.

I am confused by this reply - the first two numbers are 10.0 which never change (you would have thought 10.0 would be 11.0 now?) - do you mean last two numbers from winver?

Perhaps an image from your display would help?

I too got confused as all my Insider vhds stem from same host OS. I create my own watermark on the background to tell differences but that is me.

Seems a bit of a fuss over nothing. I've often installed builds from UUPDUMP and got updates via standard WU without being in the insider program.

All anyone has to do is look at the attachment here and see the official Microsoft (at this moment) Build Number. It's clear that the Build I'm running is 22000.708. That number changed multiple times before and after Microsoft released it to the general public.

In fact, Build 22000.675 was changed to Build 22000.708.
