Whispers and murmurs about Windows 11 22H2 (codenamed Sun Valley 2) reaching release to manufacturing (RTM) status soon have been doing the rounds for a while now, with a report suggesting that it is happening this month itself. Another more recent report claimed that the latest Beta Channel build 22621 was the RTM candidate, with the sign-off on May 20, which is just under a week away.

Today, famed leakster and Twitter user WalkingCat has revealed the Windows 11 22H2 RTM date and it is just a few days after the May 20 signing-off. According to WalkingCat, Microsoft will be signing 22H2 or Sun Valley 2 (SV2) on May 24. However, it wasn't revealed which Windows 11 build was the RTM candidate and so for now, the most likely candidate seems to be build 22621 as suggested by yesterday's report.

This link just proves most updates are cosmetic flim flam. The most requested features e.g. tabs in file explorer have been totally ignored. MS is too busy trying to emulate an OS that is not even remotely a threat to Windows sales.

When will MS developers get it into their thick heads that flexibility is the most important feature of Windows, and they are shooting theirselves in the foot by reducing flexibility and not delivering what users really want but hey we have 5 triilion emoticons now.

Dumbing down of Windows is totally rhe wrong direction.

Agree, if this is supposed to be a major update it's not that great. Really thought the tabbed File Explorer would ship, big let down

But you are dismissing an important factor: With the decoupling of so many components, Microsoft can release new versions of various components without having to wait for the next major update. For example, if 2 months from now File Explorer is ready, they can release it then without waiting for the 23H2 release.

I would expect most advanced features to be in Dev version first but some of those highly desirable ones (like File explorer tabs) are not to be seen. It would be logical that Beta and Release previuew channels be primary contenders for new yearly build.

Not really - it is quite normal to have a quiet period AFTER Dev and Beta diverge for internal restructuring.

We have been on W11 for a long time now and NOTHING really "Wow - that is a great feature". The whole focus on W11 seems to pander to the arty-farty brigade who drool over sexy looking OS but NEVER ACTUALLY use the OS.

Somewhere along the line, MS have forgotten that a lot of people use a computer to do things, not just look at it with starry eyes.

This tells me the skill balance set on the development team is too polarised one way. A huge fraction of Windows users desires/requirements are just being blatantly ignored.

So it is all very well saying W11 has ability to do updates more frequently, but all that will happen is the easy cosmetic flim flam will get pushed but the truly innovative features we want (and I do not regard fike explorer tabs as innovative) never get developed, as they do not have the skill set anymore to THINK OUT OF THE BOX.

Maybe while they're fixing things up they could fix the taskbar unhiding itself multiple times a day after my monitors go to sleep.

    Acer will not allow WD Black SN8100 to function in m.2 slot 0 and Crucial T710 ssd's to function in either slot.
Will this finally give us a right-click context menu that shows all the options without having to click again on "Show more options?" Or at least allow us to customize the first level of the context menu to add critical features like "delete" and "rename"?

I know the context menu can be changed via registry edits and other tricks, but it makes me unreasonably angry that MS cares so little about what users want that they don't let us customize the context menu within the OS itself.

At least make the full context menu use the same font, icons, and spacing as the first-level one. Windows 11 looks so kludged together, there are so many visual inconsistencies.

    Acer will not allow WD Black SN8100 to function in m.2 slot 0 and Crucial T710 ssd's to function in either slot.
Am I the ONLY person noticing 22H2 designation -- which is the SECOND half of this year, not the FIRST.

So clearly, the RTM for 22H2 would not be until near the end of the SECOND half of this year.

While this could be 22H1 RTM, that is not what the poster is claiming.

Anytime on, or after July 1 would technically be 22H2. That's roughly 38 days from today. I believe it's possible that it will be out as RTM by then, everyone else will have to wait a few months. In the interim I would expect there will be numerous cumulative updates.

RTM is the FINAL version that gets released to the manufacturers -- and that is typically in May (for the H1 release) and November (for the H2 release.) So, while anything is possible, it is very unlikely that an H2 RTM release is going to come out early in the second half of this year.
