Windows 11, 24H2 update, doesn't appear (despite global launch in early October)!

looks like you just are going to have wait, your computer will take it. You don't want to get the blue or Black screen of death. I have two laptops one brand new the other two years old I had to wait on the two-year-old. I was harping on feedback forum File manager had a defect when engaging a extra drive it showed TWO drives that was messing up backups. My first update on newer laptop update had to manually correct File manager but the second one Microsoft fixed that did not have to do anything. SO the longer it takes to get your update more things will be fixed. Remember there are 9 million Microsoft units out there that needs updates.

Many of us that are now on 24H2, used the method I linked in post #2
...from the original by @Shawn Brink right?
His Tuts are fantastic because he manages to make the most complex or advanced subjects simple to understand and always very detailed!
Thanks, @Ghot ! ;)
Knowledge is never too much!... even if I decide to "not force" the upgrade!

Having seen 24H2 and its yet-to-be-resolved minor bugs I'm not surprised that the rollout is taking it slow(...) I'll wait for it to be offered through the normal channels.
From what I read (right here, in these posts), it seems to be, in fact, the most reasoned attitude!... for those who don't want, or can't, afford to be "adventurous"! ;)

@Berton

(...)has included a OneDriveTemp folder(...)
I've, already, a "C:\OneDriveTemp" in my 23H2 system. I think isn't a "new situation"!

I did a clean install of Win11 23H2 on Sat. and when finished it and started the updates it also got 24H2 installed, haven't seen any issue yet(...)

Hmmm... interesting this situation where a clean installation of 23H2 automatically leads to the installation of 24H2... and without any apparent issues!... Very interesting!

Assuming that we have an "intact"/proper 23H2 system (I don't know if the command `DISM /Online/ Cleanup-Image/[Scanhealth] or [Restorehealth]` allows us to diagnose/do it "in full"), we can hypothesize that the 23H2 system itself, with its successive updates, may have system files (possibly the older ones) that conflict with those of 24H2 ?!...

The situation you expose is very interesting!

I came here, on this Forum, precisely to find out your opinions, which, even if they, obviously, didn't coincide (I think the "not force upgrade" has win! ;) ), I knew I would learn something more! And so, it happened!

My thanks to everyone who participated in this very interesting "tête-à-tête"!

These "minor issues" that you focus on, were they related to the drivers?
I don't really trust driver update programs (they occasionally serve as an informative reference, but I've never used them to update drivers; only to make backups!)!
The only one I use is Intel DSA!

If it matters... I did an In-Place Upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2.
I generally use the In-Place Upgrade (IPU), when MS is being slow or I'm doing any upgrade that's being difficult.

On Win 10 I used the IPU to go from 1909 to 2004 and from 21H2 to 22H2.
I used the IPU to go from Win 10 to Win 11, also.

On Win 11 I used the IPU to go from 21H2 to 22H2 as well.
For 22H2 to 23H2, there's an Enablement Package (which just turns on 23H2 features, already in 22H2).

I love me some In-Place Upgrade. :-)

Keep in mind the using the IPU is not really "forcing" the upgrade.
It's just doing the upgrade on a computer that MS hasn't "decided" is ready for the upgrade.

It's not so much that the device really isn't ready, it's just that MS hasn't "labeled" the device as ready.... yet.
Until your computer is added to the "ready" list... 24H2 won't show up in Windows Update.

So far, on Win 10 or Win 11, the IPU has worked fine every time.
Meaning that my computer was actually ready, but MS just hadn't got around to listing my computer as ready... yet.

Hi @Ghot :)

If it matters... I did an In-Place Upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2.
I generally use the In-Place Upgrade (IPU), when MS is being slow or I'm doing any upgrade that's being difficult.
Yes, @Ghot! I intuited this in your first message! ;)

Keep in mind the using the IPU is not really "forcing" the upgrade.
It's just doing the upgrade on a computer that MS hasn't "decided" is ready for the upgrade.
Yes, I agree! That's why I put (" ") when I refer to forcing the upgrade.

I will try to explain in more detail my doubts regarding an IPU for the 24H2, in my system.

I haven't used the IPU for the 24H2 version, yet, because I find it strange that, despite the specs. of my system, especially regarding of hardware (and which is just over 1 year old), I haven't received it (24H2) through the "normal channel" of OS update.
So I thought that maybe, there could be, something on my system (application(s) or, mainly, driver(s)) that could be preventing the update.

Furthermore, in addition, I have (in Windows Update settings) the switches "ON" in the options
i)
"Get the latest updates as they become available"
and, in advanced options,
ii) "Receive updates for other MS products" and
iii) "Keep me updated".

Consistently, I have, in "Privacy and Security", all the "Diagnostics and comments" options activated so that MS receives as much information from my system as possible and "can evaluate" it.

I've no problem sharing this information with MS because I think that by helping MS, by providing it with information for its ecosystem products development, it directly/indirectly also helps me as well as the entire community of users of MS products.

However, I am aware that this may eventually have a small impact on my system's performance, and I know that many "expert bloggers" advise against this - whether for privacy reasons, whether for system performance reasons.

But I, as a user of MS ecosystem products, think I owe this “citizenship” attitude to the MS community!

It is for these reasons that I did not “venture” into an IPU for the 24H2 and hence, consistently, I came to this Forum with the question I asked!

Thanks, @Ghot ;)

I don't "care" if you upgrade or not. I just try to provide accurate info, in case you decide to upgrade.
Have a good one. :-)

Normal Windows Update
I read from multiple sources how to get ready for major updates like 24h2 updated drivers using Win 11 is a must. I do not wait and stack up updates I do one or few at a time. I use regular Window update forcing doesn't make since I have a saying " watch what you wish and push for you may not like what you get". Recently using Copilot more for a second option of information, how to do explains things I did not understand. Sticking your head in the sand or being bull headed gets you nowhere I have been using Windows since 1984 3.1 you either upgrade or your left behind.
