Windows 11 24H2 - When will I get it?

Waiting for 24H2 and neither my desktop PC nor my laptop is offering the upgrade from 23H2 yet. I have switched both to receive updates as soon as they are available and still... nothing. Is it just a case of be patient and wait?

Mine just got the 23H2 (KB5044285) update yesterday.. no sign of 24H2 .. yet.

I'm not on the "as soon as they are available" track.

I have no idea.. for those of us on the "standard" update track, there appears to be no rhyme nor reason as to when these updates become available.

MS does controlled, or phased, rollouts of updates. You'll get it sooner or later.

It's being slowly rolled out by region, I don't think there is any publicly documented date for each region though. However, if you're desperate to get 24H2, you can just download the MCT and then do an in-place upgrade.

You will get 24H2 upgrade after "Intel microcode 0x12B" based bios update, I think. Manufacturer Gigabyte released the bios update based on microcode 0x12B yesterday. Most of them using 14th Gen Intel CPUs are not getting upgrade.

It took me months for 23H2 to show up on my box in windows updates.

If you want it now, I would just get the iso and update from that.

No, me neither.

I have three supported devices and none of them have been offered 24H2 through Windows Update yet.

There is however a way to tell Windows Update to find and install 24H2, which I have used on one of my machines (the other two can wait and see). See my posts #36 and #46 here:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

How to get 24H2... now.

Assuming you're on 23H2, and your CPU has the SSE4.2 Instruction Set... Make a fresh backup first. (Optional, but a good idea.) I used the Media Creation Tool to download the 24H2 ISO from Microsoft, and saved it to my desktop. Then I right clicked it and chose: MOUNT And... I just did an...

For the past 3 years, RTM has been released about 6 months before GA, but OP is on 22631.4317.

OP needs to switch to the Stable channel which came out with 1742 two weeks ago is now at 2033.

The upgrade will be forced eventually, but if there are incompatible apps or hardware, the upgrade will be postponed for up to 2 years.

Simply download the ISO and upgrade. Since you have a supported computer, just open it with File Explorer (aka mount) and run Setup. No hacks needed. If you have an incompatible applications, you get a warning to uninstall it before proceeding. I had Explorer Patcher, I uninstalled it, upgraded and reinstalled.
