I uninstalled KB5043178 on mine and turned off 'get latest updates...' to stop it coming back. That optional preview CU has the 'SFC loop' bug. I'm waiting to see if Patch Tuesday does any better.

Yes, the SFC never-ending 'fixed' repeat issue is entirely due to KB5043178. No issues in 26100.1742....

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

My attempted update to 24H2 did not go well.
It took 5 hours to complete, broke my start menu and task bar, office will not work.
Fortunately a 5 minute restore with macrium reflect and all is good.
I’ll wait until I do a fresh install and then go for 24H2.

An even easier way (in my opinion) is to create the 24H2 install media in Rufus, make sure you check Bypass TPM when asked and use the registry files that Rufus themselves provided.

An even easier way (in my opinion) is to create the 24H2 install media in Rufus, make sure you check Bypass TPM when asked and use the registry files that Rufus themselves provided.

I think the setup.exe /product server is the simplest method. And there is no need to edit the registry.
If setup.exe /product server didn't exist, then I would use the Rufus + Registry edits method. While setup.exe /product server is still open, then that's my preferred method.

Anyone else experienced this?

Update: This was semi un-related to 24H2. I have fixed that issue.
In general 24H2 handles themes differently , WinAero Theme Switcher isn't working correctly, but I found another way to switch theme using cmd script.

That's why I am sticking with 23H2 for the time being. At least until the update is offered over the normal Windows Update section.

And when last week I had to reinstall Windows on the PC of my son, because his SSD had failed, I searched for an install version ISO of 23H2, which I found on my own system, had been saving it.

Used Rufus to make an install USB flash drive. It was rather old (May 2024) but as the install gets updates during the install, it will take the newest version anyway. That was visible because of all kinds of extra pushing choices during the configuration part, which I did not know about, but denied all...

It was for me but not very serious ones. Unrepeatable SFC as well as locking up on some operations with File manager copy-paste. DirectX 11 and 12 were not working in some games. Kept on "losing" one of my NVMe SSDs. unttil restart. BT drivers and Phone link were always throwing errors in Maintenance reliability reports although not even used. Restored backup of 23H2 and now waiting for 24H2 to show up in WU. Same PC, different drive 24H2 insider Dev works almost perfectly. None of those errors now after last update.

Some not so serious ones for me too, though not as many as Mike. Mainly SFC repeatedly finding the same things to fix, and the 8.63GB of Windows updates that can never be cleared (apparently a misreporting issue rather than actually there).

My System One got its 24H2 through Windows Update by setting it as the Target Feature Version. It can keep its 24H2, but my other supported devices are in no rush to get it. They're staying on 23H2 until Windows Update offers it without any prompting from me.

You are getting those Preview updates automatically as you have 'Get the latest updates as soon as they're available' turned on. KB5044384 does indeed fix the SFC issue, it has a few new bugs of its own though, notably that File Explorer's 'See more' ... options now pop up rather than down, making them unreachable if Explorer is maximised. This made its way out of the Insider builds to the Release channel uncorrected (though it's now being fixed for Insiders).

File explorer "see more" tab always opens upwards 24H2 - post #14

I uninstalled my KB5044384, turned off 'Get the latest...', and hope that the fix makes it into the next PT update.
