Windows 11 24H2 is better then 23H2 in Counter-Strike 2 Benchmark Map:


23H2:

FPS: Avg=459.4

24H2:

FPS: Avg=494.4

I installed 23H2 only because Benchmark.

I don't play any graphics demanding games, but I edit videos. Most of them with the NVEnc encoder that uses CUDA, nVidia's hardware acceleration to encode in AVC or HEVC (aka h.264 and h.265). I have seen great improvement in performance just from updating to newer nVidia drivers. I never allow Windows Update to mess with my drivers, especially the graphics drivers. I always manually download and install latest drivers directly from nVidia.

    Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.

If you used the en-us version of the url it would have said 24H2 straight away. It takes a little time to propagate out to the other regional urls, but the en-gb one has just updated to saying 24H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Maybe the site hadn't updated yet. I run the EN-US version since I prefer the English interface over the local Greek interface. Since Windows 95 the English version was out first and then the Greek, so most of us are used to the English interface. Also when the Greek version was out it would have some bugs not present in the English version or the translation would not be accurate. Thankfully since Windows 7 both versions come out at the same time and the Greek doesn't have more bugs than the English.

Any sensible person makes an image backupof 23H2 before updating as insurance.

Somebody has to update first to ferret any major bugs out.

I cannot do that because my PC is unsupported. I have to manually download the ISO and then bypass compatibility check to upgrade.

Yeah, which is why I updated 23H2 to 24H2 a month or 2 ago now. Not necessarily for the thanks so much as ferreting out the bugs so I can assist family members and friends when it comes time for them to update.

I will never AGAIN DO GPU Passthrough in Linux. Around 100 FPS less in Counter-Strike 2 Benchmark. Native Windows 11 and Linux THE BEST for gaming.

Native Boot (VHDX) way better then GPU Passthrough. At least you have CPU Temperature, CPU Power, 32GB RAM instead 16GB in VM.

If you want maximum performance always run native (aka on the metal), not on virtual machine. Also to boost performance always download the latest drivers directly from manufacturer, avoid Windows Update.

You have to set IOMMAX, and / OR IOMMU in the computers hardware BIOS, and have a PHYSICALLY SEPARATE GPU to make that work properly.

A decently set up VM with appropriate hardware can run so near native speed you wouldn't notice the difference. Also you need to optimise the I/O subsystem -- using VIRTIO for Disk I/O is far better than the default SATA QCOW format . Also depends on the Linux distro.

You need also to use NATIVE network or at least bridged networking for the GUEST. Use Virtio as well for the network card -- that way you maximize transfers of data betwen Host and Guest.

Current KVM/QEMU on latest kernel (6.11.2.x) is just as good if not better than HYPER-V on Windows host and far more flexible.

Anybody who says "I'll never do XXX again" is usually just sprouting a load of Bovine Scatology and has not much clue about the topic they are preaching on.

KVM/QEMU is used by 1000's of large cloud providers who provide zillion's of Virtual environments. If it were no good they wouldn't be wasting their money on using it would they.

I meant i will not use GPU Passthrough for gaming especially for Counter-Strike 2.

I think i have lower FPS in Counter-Strike 2 because less CPU Cores in VM.
