Windows 11 activation after HW Change


Yes, buying older refurbished models makes more sense than giving a fortune for a current model. However, like I said, I am not going to replace mine unless it is REALLY obsolete (compare an old 2000's Intel Pentium 4 vs today's technology) and I can no longer do what I do now.

None. Manully configured so nobody except me can change any critical system files. (Don't ask how, it's probably against some rule somewhere)
No need, they can spy on us even with an old computer running Windows 7. But they have done a deal with manufacturers to make people upgrade their computers or replace them. That's why the fake system requirements for 8th generation Intel Core i3 or 2nd generation AMD Ryzen CPU, TMP 2.0 and Secure Boot. When they realized that people just bypass compatibility check and upgrade to Windows 11 anyway, they compiled version 24H2 to demand SSE4.2 instructions. This cannot be circumvented, so at least they ruled out very old systems. People panicked and did bought new computers or at least upgraded their old systems to make them compliant. For the record 24H2, 25H2 and the upcoming 26H2 can be installed on any CPU with SSE4.2 instructions and this is at least 1st generation Intel Core-i3 or equivalent AMD. So no hurry to upgrade just yet.

Make sure you are signed into the same Microsoft account that was linked to the digital license on the old hardware. The troubleshooter will only show devices tied to your current MS account. 2. If your device does not appear in the troubleshooter list, try running these commands in an elevated Command Prompt to reset the licensing state: slmgr /upk slmgr /cpky slmgr /rearm Then restart and run the troubleshooter again. 3. If you originally upgraded from Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10 through the free upgrade path, and then to Windows 11, the digital license is a bit more fragile with hardware changes. For future reference, before any major hardware change, always verify your activation page shows "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" - not just "digital license" without the MS account part. Thanks for this. My motherboard packed up and I replaced it with a new better one. I reinstalled windows 11 but of course It came back with the 0xc004c008 error. I have a digital license that deliberately is NOT linked to a microsoft account. This link between MS account and digital id seems to be the only way to reclaim it. Anyway after numerous failures (phone service no longer supported) I tried your slmgr /rearm command. It said command successful restart your machine. I did, logged in and when to activation settings. It breifly showed up as not actived but changed to Activated after a couple of seconds.

So thanks for that. Worked great.
