Windows 11 cannot access other computers, but can be accessed by the other computers


I guess the next update comes in two weeks, October 8.

Maybe a half-ass measure, but what else can you do?

You talk about 0x80004005
From my personal DB:
- error: 0x80004005): The specified service does not exist as an installed service
So my guess the SMB1.0/CIFS Client, is still not installed?
- error: 0x80004005 is also the error code for access denied, (see my username important comment)

So for your point, 2, and 3. To connect to other clients(windows 8.1 or lower, or linux) you only need SMB1.0/CIFS Client.
When other pc want to connect to your PC use, smb 1.0/cifs server. (I guess that is already turned on.)

You also talk about setting you network/firewall to private:
Open advanged firewall config and check if your Private network, also allow the outgoing firewall connections:
make sure the following ports are allowed for outgoing:
SMBTCP445
NetBIOS Name ResolutionUDP137
NetBIOS Datagram ServiceUDP138
NetBIOS Session ServiceTCP139

Like this below, i don't use port 138, but you can use that as wel. (removed my allowed ip adredress)

IMPORTANT!!! Make sure the pc's your connecting to HAS an account with YOUR username, and with YOUR password as an active account. (AND give that user access to the SHARE, and Access to the DATA you need, both!) Do not use accounts without password, or do not try to connect to a diffrent username or password, as that gives issues. IMPORTANT!!!

Once you have checked that.
Try if you can connect to the network shares with the dns name.
if it does not work.
Try if can connect with the ip adress of the machine,
WinKey+R, press enter
then \\IP\networksharename\ press enter: (example: \\192.168.1.10\data\)

When still not working, temporaryturn OFF your Firewall on you machine, and on your Target machine to exclude that from your results.
Also do you use Microsoft Defender, or a other Virus Protection, as some others might block some things as well, if you do, Turn off that firewall also temporary.

I will read this a couple of time and then try your suggestions.
Just to confirm, all my PC's that are on the network are W11 - 23H2 latest updates, just my own use PC is W11 24h2 - years ago I signed up for early release but cancelled it some time ago. MS still push early release items at me and normally I decline.

Since I'm only W11, I believe I don't need SMB1.0/CIFS Client.

My PC's have different names and sign in passwords, but use the same MS account - is that wrong?
Must I create a separate user account on each PC with my PC name and the same sign in PW? Never had to do that before?

Correct, smb1.0 only needed to connect to older OS, or older NAS, or older systems that does not support the new version.

Not 100% needed, but for me it is the best practise use, as otherwise you have to use the credentials manager to set some things up. And all with the same account names/password makes it easer to debug.

A few problems: one of the computers that I am trying to connect to has a GNU/Linux distribution installed and does not use the Windows registry system as well as run batch scripts.
