As @britgeezer did, I also installed his update and that was all the same.

@britgeezer, where did the update come from? The Insider's Preview channel?
Yes, I opted out a long time ago, but on this one PC it kept pushing me to use 24h2. In fact, it was the only update option.

Have you tried enabling the non-secure guests setting?
If you haven't already done so, do this:
Using the shortcut key Windows Flag + R, open Run and type gpedit.msc to open the local policy editor.
Navigate to Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Network >> LANMAN Workstation.
Enable the Enable insecure guest logons setting and Restart.

For me it was the resolution of this situation that also happened to me.
Good luck

That security policy sets the same registry entry I gave in post #34. I had to find out the correct registry entry for that policy because I was working on 24H2 Home.

Bree said:
I recently clean installed 24H2 Home. Against expectations it had the same restriction as Pro, an account with no password cannot connect to shares on any other PC. Unlike Pro though, there is no gpedit.exe to be able to change this.

Yes, that 'Enable insecure guest logins' policy is the correct one to use. My registry edit is identical to applying the policy. I was just surprised that I had to do it in 24H2 Home too (the hard way, in Regedit). MS have said previously that this restriction was only for Pro and above.

The thing with me is that, I already tried this.

For a list of stuff that I tried, refer to the first post of this thread.

But I am glad it works for you!

I wish you the best.

Should I have faith that the update coming next Tuesday might do it?

OK with 24H2 Pro 26100.1742 I had the same problem.
My Windows 10 Pro could access Windows 11 24H2 through my network, however Windows 11 24H2 could not access my Windows 10 Pro or any earlier versions of Windows 11 Pro Computers this only happened since I went to 24H2.
To fix this issue I did both of these changes in Local Group Policy Editor. And Now all is happy including me. I hope this helps.

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Local Policies, Security Options
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (always)
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (if server agrees)
Set both of these to "Disabled"
Click on OK.

Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Lanman Workstation
Double click on "Enable Insecure Guest Logons"
Set this to "Enabled"
Click on OK.

IMPORTANT!!! Make sure the pc's your connecting to HAS an account with YOUR username, and with YOUR password as an active account. (AND give that user access to the SHARE, and Access to the DATA you need, both!) Do not use accounts without password, or do not try to connect to a diffrent username or password, as that gives issues. IMPORTANT!!!
This worked for me, after struggling with a reformatted windows 11 PC for 2 days. I tried everything under the sun but still couldn't access a shared folder on a Windows 10 machine. I added a new user account to the win10 machine with same username/PW as the win11 user and suddenly everything is good.

I don't understand this tho? I have another win11 PC on this network that can access the shares on the win10 PC, but it doesn't have it's own user account on win10. Why do I suddenly need this?!?!

Thank you so much!!! I have tryed so much and this has solved it for me.

Thank you Wolffz!!! It worked after wasting 24 hrs on this frustrating problem!

I am not one to knock Microsoft. I find Windows far more intuitive then the endlessly frustrating user security policies on a Mac

But home networking on a private secure network should be able to work out of the box without somebody outside of Microsoft being a tech wizard like Wolffz. Pretty discraceful that there is no real help other than generic ansers about the basic networking settings on Microsoft help or that there was no publicity about the enforced role out of this "security policy".

I don't know if this is going to be the fix for your problem but it fixed mine. On a W11 23H2 home and a pro network shares were fine. When 24H2 was installed both lost there abilty to talk to local systems and NAS, like flipping a switch.
My fix on both and verified were.
1. open gpedit.msc and go to Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Network>LanMan Workstation. Set "Enable Insecure Guest Logins" to ENABLED
2. Open Local Security Policy and go to Security Settings>Local Policies>Security Options and set "Microsoft Network Client Digitaly Signed Communications(Always)" to Disabled if it is not already.

On the test machine I rebooted first but on a clients machine I did not and the shares worked fine.

Hope this helps someone.

I spoke to soon!

Wolffz's solution worked while Windows 11 PC1 was on 242H and Windows 11 PC2 on 232H

As soon as PC2 "upgraded" to 242H the network was broken again, even though all the Local Policy Settings suggested by Wolffz remained disabled on PC1 and PC2.

Thereafter, initially each PC could only see it's own network share

I set up a new share of a folder on PC2 and suddenly PC1 can see all of the previously shared folders on PC2 (don't ask me to explain how!?)

The opposite is not happening - when I try to view shared folders on PC2 from PC1 I get the old network access denied/contact your administrator message

I also make sure that I put ticks in All SMB 1.0/CIFS Client and SMB 1.0/CIFS Server and SMB Direct.
The settings are in in Control Panel, Programs and features, Turn Windows feature on or off.
It may help if you do them on both computers.
I also make sure my computers are on a Private Network NOT Public
