I’ve been using these Windows 10 registry updates successfully until updating to Windows 11 v 21H2 Release Preview (Build 22000.282) x64 -

1 How to Enable or Disable Real-time Protection for Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows 10

‘Disable_Windows_Defender_Real-Time_Protection.reg’

URL Link

and,

2 How to Turn On or Off Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows 10

'To Turn Off Microsoft Defender Antivirus.reg'

URL Link

In a previous enquiry, you told me that 10 regedits would most likely work in 11; however these do appear to do so.

Is there any other way to disable Windows Defender in Windows 11?

Ian,

I think your best chance of getting matters resolved is to post in those two tutorials rather than in a separate thread.

Best of luck,
Denis

Thank you for the information

Is there a similar Group Policy edit to disable Windows Defender Real-Time Protection?

(These actions are already covered in my 3rd-party AV software - Malwarebytes.)

Hi,
Where might that be ?

From what I've noticed mbam temper protection is also tied to defenders tamper protection

I've always thought mbam tamper protection only applied to it's self but nope mbam actually hides defenders tamper protection and until it's disabled any changes are locked.

By the way your questions title make no sense to the actual question

Code:
rem Disable Windows Defender. For this to work you have to manually disable "Tamper protection"
powershell "if ((Get-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Features').TamperProtection -eq 4) { exit 0; } ; Write-Output 'Windows Defender can not be disabled, Tamper Protection is still active' '' 'Disable Tamper Protection manually, then press OK' | msg /w *"
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Spynet" /v SpyNetReporting /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Spynet" /v SubmitSamplesConsent /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Real-Time Protection" /v DisableRealtimeMonitoring /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" /v SmartScreenEnabled /t REG_SZ /d "Off" /f
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableRoutinelyTakingAction /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v SecurityHealth /f

Ian,

ThrashZone makes a good point.

This is how many of us see updated & new questions - New posts
- Your question title is what many people will use to decide whether or not they have anything to contribute.
- - If people don't think they have anything to contribute, based on the title alone, then they are liable to move on to the next thread and ignore yours.
- - If people think they might have something to contribute, many will then hover their cursor over the title to see the first few lines so those lines can also be used to attract people with the appropriate knowledge & skills to help you.

All the best,
Denis

Denis,

The thread started out with questions about forum hacks to turn off Windows Defender.

However, through the responses posted, it graduated to changing Windows Defender options using Group Policy.

I've closed this thread and I'm pursuing my queries regarding Group Policy in a new thread under the 'Antivirus, Firewalls and System Security' forum.
