As my title describes, I am trying to figure out how to toggle off the Windows 11 "feature" of fading a window when you hover over its "X" close button on the top right

thanks in advance for any insights!

Not sure which one it is, but you can enable/disable visual effects in Advanced System settings. Click on the start button and then on the gear icon (Settings). Then go to System, Info and click the "Advanced System settings" text. Then go to Advanced tab and click the Settings button next to Performance to change the visual effects. Another utility that has a lot of tweaks is Winaero Tweaker:

thanks - these are my visual effects settings (fig1) - i tried toggling off most of them, but none fixed the issue of fading a window when the mouse hovers over the window's X close button (fig 2)

This is what I use. I have never seen the effect you are showing. Is this possibly the result of some add-on package?

That doesn't look like a Windows feature! Do you have any 3rd party UI altering software installed or portable?

Hi again, Steve.
See if there is anything you can disable in Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects.

That's not a standard Windows 11 feature. It's likely to be an option in StartAllBack or some other system tweaking add-on (e.g. Iconoid - Enable window fading?)

bingo - i went through my winaero and ultimate windows tweaker settings to see if there was anything in them causing that, but couldn't find anything - i thought the only other third party visual adjustment program i had installed was f.lux, completely forgetting about Iconoid which i have used forever (at least 12+ years) for the hiding desktop icon feature - so when i recently set up my new W11 laptop, i must have inadvertently enabled that feature in Iconoid - mystery SOLVED! thank you Bruce and everyone! Really helpful forum!!
