As a reminder, these release notes apply to those who are in the Canary 29600 Series Channel. As we begin the transition to the updated Windows Insider Program, all new build release notes will be labeled under the new channel names, even though Insiders in the Canary 29600 Series Channel may not yet find themselves having transitioned to Experimental (Future Platforms). Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out​

[General Reliability]​

If you were experiencing a repeated bugcheck (green screen) with the error KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE after the previous flight, that should be resolved now.

[Storage]​

Improved the performance when navigating to see storage on large volumes via Settings > System > Storage > Advanced Storage Settings > Disks & Volumes.

[Windows Security]​

If you were seeing an erroneous notification saying Windows Defender wasn’t enabled when it actually was after the latest flights, that should be resolved now.

[Other]​

Fixed an issue causing some Insiders to unexpectedly see two energy saver entries in Quick Settings recently.

Reminder for Windows Insiders in the Canary 29600 Series Channel (soon transitioning to Experimental (Future Platforms))​

  • These builds can be unstable and may be released with limited documentation.
  • The builds released to these channels represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows. Features and experiences included in these builds might never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features might change over time, be removed, or replaced, and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they are ready.
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For Windows Insiders who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders might not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.

That started previously with builds 295xx. I have a program that still uses VBScript so I had to find a replacement before they actually remove the VBScript support from Windows.
I think it will be removed from all builds in the future. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️
Not sure exactly when they will remove it.

Could anyone running this build please have a quick look at this folder and see if there is any content in there. I believe you should see something in there if your build is approved for flighting, bin files, device info etc etc.

Mine is empty and all other checks I can find to look at suggest my build is correctly configured.

I've clean installed this build from a UUDUMP ISO because my previous runs of this Canary branch suddenly seemed to stop being offered updates. From all I can gather it may be because there is a Microsoft server block on my PC configuration due to known issues. Its a Dell mobile workstation. I did experience lots of issues a couple of builds back with things like shutdown hanging and Windows sounds being many seconds out of sync. After that and a raft of targeted updates I had to disable Fast Start and while all seemed OK I have had no further updates since that past build. Hence the clean install via ISO as a test.

I've been hunting for info on how to tell if an Insider Build is being blocked by Microsoft for specific hardware or whether I might just have some configuration issue. That folder was something I turned up in the hunt along with lots and lots of other stuff to look at such as registry entries and also PowerShell commands to interrogate the status of stuff. I'm basically non the wiser apart from a feeling that I'm being blocked from updates to this Canary branch, at least at this time. All was good for the first few weeks and then suddenly no new builds showing. This occurred also with a clean install of the build prior to this and I was not offered 29610 when it appeared a few days ago. So it seems like some hardware based ID block but there seems no definitive way I can find to prove it or not.

What is ClipSVC?​

ClipSVC stands for the Client License Service. This is a background Windows service that provides infrastructure support for the Microsoft Store and handles digital licenses for your applications and the Windows operating system itself.

What is the GenuineTicket folder for?​

This folder is primarily used during Windows upgrades or reinstallation processes to store "Genuine Tickets."

  • The Digital License Process: When you upgrade from an older version of Windows (like Windows 7 or 8) to Windows 10/11, or when you perform a major hardware change, Windows generates an XML file called a Genuine Ticket.
  • The Handshake: This ticket proves to Microsoft’s activation servers that your machine has a legitimate, genuine license. Windows places the ticket in this folder, ClipSVC reads it, validates it with Microsoft, and then grants your PC a permanent digital license.
  • The Result: Once validated, the ticket is processed, and your Windows status changes to "Activated with a digital license."
